I like to start now for 2010-2011. My goal this year is to get in top shape for longer hikes for full day sits and I am working on becoming a better archer. Anybody got goals, plans, equipment changes for 2010?
Im doing more late season scouting on the public lands I hunt. My goal is to locate some big bucks that have survived so I know where to focus next year around.
I also am shooting my bow more. I got it 3 weeks before season and never became as comfortable with it as I would have liked.
Finally, I am becoming safer yet remaining versitile. I sold my tree saddle and am not using tree gaffs. Instead I have Lone Wold sticks and am getting one of their hang ons. All my gear should be under 25 lbs.
I don't have a place to practice where I'm living here in KC , but I have been staying in shape by continuing my workout routine at Gold's Gym down the road from the apartment.
I can't wait until I can get out again and fling some arrows .
As for Dee and I, your right we could all be in better shape...that's for sure. We are still shooting 2 times during the week and on Sat. shooting 3D at the club other than that, I'm going to over-haul all my stands with new bolts and straps this year. Safety first...Live to hunt another day...
The last couple of years I have been doing most of my scouting as soon as the season closes. I have a full day of scouting planned tomorrow. Going to Kentucky in a couple of weeks to look at some property up there for next year. As far as equipment changes, I'm building a lighter weight magnum rifle for some longer distance shots. I guess I plan and get ready thoughout the year, but it will slow way down once my daughter starts travel softball in a few weeks. I guess the saying, Season may close but it never ends, applies here.
I'm not going to change much equipment wise. But I am going to run the Norris Dam Hard Trail race on September 5th. I still haven't made up my mind wether I'm going to run the 15 mile race or the 50K (31 miles). I know I can run the 15 miles, but 31 is pretty intimidating.
Haven't changed the setup on my bow, other than a new string every other year, since I've got it in 2000. I did change the arrows about 3-4 years ago, but that's it. Just practice every now and then from the stand at two different distances (15 & 30). Plus, guess I'm lazy, but I do wait till about March when it warms up just a bit.
I'm shooting alot more, going to all year.Doing the early scouting ,glad I am finding new places. Making changes in some of my gear, got a new release,TrueFire, new shafts Easton's,broadheads Slick Tricks and three new stands.Hope everyone has asafe and good 2010.
