Just wondering how many guys use a rangefinder for turkey hunting. I've been turkey hunting for 12 years and never used one, but I just recently got one at a great price and figured I will use it some this year. What's your take on em?

i have thought about it a few times but keep deciding its just another thing i dont want to carry. besides that i am not sure i ever would really have the time or need to range one. in the woods they have to be close so its easy to tell...in a field there usually isnt something to range other then the bird and thats just more movement at that point. i can see how they would be useful though just not something i am concerned with at the moment. if you are blind hunting birds or in the same spot for a while i am sure i would be a lot more useful

I don't use one for turkey hunting. Even if I take my bow this year I probably won't. I'll just step off the distance to the decoys and judge off of them.

its just different IMO when you are using a shotgun...i dont need to know exact range to judge what pin or how to shoot him. He just needs to be "in range" and i will aim at the same spot regardless. this may sound silly but i have always judge range by how far i could throw a football. If i an throw a football to where he is standing then i can shoot him without a doubt. its just something that has always worked for me with bow hunting or turkey hunting.

Range finders work well once you got yourself positioned or set up, you can get the distance of some key trees or landmarks around you so you will know the approximate distance of the turkey when he is near something you already pointed out on your rangefinder

Ya, I guess a situation I had last year cause me to want to try one. Had a big tom come in to our set up and a buddy of mine and I were sitting up on a ridge. He was down below us and he hung up about 50 yards out. My buddy got the bird on video doing his thing, but I wasnt comfortable shooting him at 50 yds so I gave him the pass. When the bird was gone, I stepped it off at 41 steps. 41 steps is graveyard dead with my set up. I was not happy about letting that bird get by me.

I have one and use it when possible, usually to mark trees or clumps of grass at my max range before he shows his red head! To risky to try and range a bird already on you imo! Good Luck!
