Should've went 3 Tom's for 3 days this morning. Birds were gobbling like mad this morning and I had climbed the wrong side. My hip was so sore from crawling under my truck yesterday that I didn't feel like dropping over and back up again. I decided to stay on top and take the 2 mile stroll over there. On my way I struck one. I thought he was farther than he was. I called again and boom he answered I was thinking I ain't got much time here. Scrambling for a tree to sit at I got nestled was trying to get my camera situated when I heard "psssst vrooooom" to late he's here.
Positive note I am undetected by him. Drumming strutting and gobbling I watched him. Back and forth back and forth. He was trying hard to make the hen show herself. After 5 minutes of this He began to putt while looking for her. I cut to him as he turned around and he gobbled and went back in strut then he commenced to putting again I yelped and he gobbled again. Had him at 40 yards seemed a little farther I was thinking 45-50 but it was 40 on the money. I kept telling myself he will come a little closer, and he did but unfortunately he dropped under the posted sign and circled behind me gobbled some more and eased on.
After he left I ranged where he was standing "40" I could've kicked myself. Oh well I did everything except carry him to the truck. It was a blast.
I left him and got on another. He was actually cutting me off when I would call. I didn't think he would come to me because of how steep that holler was. I made an aggressive move to get to the same level as him. He must have heard or saw me cause he hushed. Been a fun day I've covered a lot of ground and my dang legs are shot. Going stay home this evening and rest hopefully get on that first Tom in the AM.

Sounds like a successful hunt to me! You had it all expect having to hoist him back to the truck, that would of just hurt your hip worse, lol. On a serious note, props for the yardage thing. I've seen people think that they were barely over 40 and just try it anyway and it turn out like 50 plus.
