Several times, people with me have tried to outfish crickets using that exact bait, and I was hoping they would, I swear every single time I have crickets in my boat, the bucket gets flipped and my boat makes noise for several weeks. I was hoping they would and I would not only have another option, but maybe wouldn't have to go looking for crickets, crickets get harder to find it seems like every year.

But, no one has even come close to beating crickets, not even in the ballpark.

That has always been my experience as well.

I just thread the 1" minnow onto a small, 1/64th ounce? trout magnet jig head.

Just wondering what line you were using with this tiny bait?

I saw a couple older gentlemen fly fishing on the clinch a couple years ago. They were catching trout one after the other. I asked what they were using. They showed me a jar of 1" gulp minnows that they thread on a plain hook and fish em like a streamer. Those gulps are probably more versatile than any other lure.

I've always had better luck on bluegill jigs with 2 lb mono, but have never tried 4 lb flouro on them, which might also work well with these small baits
