#1 for the season, finally

Congrats Cat, just remember Hunting is about having fun .

If your like me after a week or two the funs over , it's time to shoot something. LOL

if you aim for the base of the wattles and you're using a red dot/ scope and he's close, don't forget your bore may be 2in below your line of sight through the scope. I made that mistake 10 years ago and shot one at 7 yards aiming for the wattles, and blew his crop and top 1/5 of the breasts apart.

I'd rather miss one clean high than fill the breasts full of pellets and kill him, rendering the meat almost unusable. Still dreading cooking the bird my son killed, gonna be miserable picking through that one trying not to break a tooth.

Honestly, the reason I shoot high partially has something to do with not wanting any shot in the breast.

Very interesting train of thought on shot in the breast. I would rather pick shot out of 100 breasts (not that I regularly do by any stretch of the imagination), or just cut the top inch completely off, than miss one turkey. Different strokes for different folks.

I'd rather pick shot out of one or two birds than miss, but to shoot up 100 turkey breasts, I'd rather just miss one or two. Lol

Agree also. I would go as far to say that most all turkeys are not "truly missed" completely. Most turkeys take shot that may not be immediately lethal but the bird dies later.
