1000 yds at Dead Zero

Thanks guys. Not too bad for not having shot at all since last September I suppose. :) I really didn't seem to struggle at all with my trigger control and mechanics, even after such a long down time away it seemed. I did, however, pull a couple of shots here and there from the report of other rifles nearby. And no brake.

Hey Mup, good shooting! One question for clarification, you used LR primers and not LR magnums? I've got a new to me 300 WM that I'm getting ready to start load development on and just snagged 5 pounds of RL 22

Yes sir. LR magnum primers didn't produce consistent accuracy for me in this rifle. On the advice of a couple of friends, I switched to LR primers and found better consistency with my groupings. You really are fortunate to find that jug of RL 22! I'm looking myself!

Remember to start low and work up the thru the book recommendations for powder loads. I have had one WinMag that reached pressure signs a full 2 grains under published book max before.

Heard good things about the strelok app, but have not downloaded it. Only have the caldwell app for my chrony. Pro version of strelok is a pay app?

The best feeling, for me anyway, is that I've been able to shoot a good group with a hunting bullet at that distance, and not so much a target bullet.
Yes sir. While I likely will never get any of my firearms to a range where I can test quite that far, it is most definitely a rewarding feeling working on your load and getting it just right. Putting together a rig that is running tight groups is no doubt a rewarding feeling as well.

Also pretty cool killing animals with your handloads. Just something different for me with the satisfaction.

Yes sir it is! I've taken 3 bucks with handloads so far, 2 with my 30-06 and 1 with my 300WSM.

I finally got to go shoot some, first time since September of last year. I started from 100 yds, getting my data recorded for each distance, then, after 800 yds, I estimated my dial up for 1000, which I had never been able to find time for before. After shooting steel 1 shot, I was confident enough to move to the electronic target. A couple tweaks later, I cleared the pad and shot for group. 3 shots at 1000 yds, using hunting bullets, Nosler Ballistic Tips 180 grain, and netted a .4 MOA group. Extremely happy with my first attempt for group at 1000. :)
Way cool. Hitting a target at 1,000 in such a rush. Nice grouping as well.

I'm still learning the more high tech aspects of the addiction LOL but the rangemaster did share his data on density altitude with me, 560 I believe it was, and I did write that down with the rest of my data. ;)
Did you do this up at Dead Zero? Been wanting to try their range out.
