1000 yds at Dead Zero

I finally got to go shoot some, first time since September of last year. I started from 100 yds, getting my data recorded for each distance, then, after 800 yds, I estimated my dial up for 1000, which I had never been able to find time for before. After shooting steel 1 shot, I was confident enough to move to the electronic target. A couple tweaks later, I cleared the pad and shot for group. 3 shots at 1000 yds, using hunting bullets, Nosler Ballistic Tips 180 grain, and netted a .4 MOA group. Extremely happy with my first attempt for group at 1000. :)
Thanks for this post! Keeps me inspired as I go through my .284 Winchester Custom Build. This is exactly the sort of shooting protocol I'd like to go through for breaking it in and playing with the load combinations so I have a rifle set up that will easily kill virtually any game from 100-1000 yards. Though I doubt I will ever take a live game shot beyond 600 yards it is always a great 'built-in margin' of confidence when you know you have the capabilities to shoot accurately well beyond the shot you are taking.

Wow! You could give me the exact setup and, with my skills, I'd still be limited to about 300 yards. Nice shooting!

Where does one shoot a 1000 y around Chatt?

and what is an " electronic target " ?

great work and shooting by the way. Color me green !!
Dead Zero Shooting Range. The electronic pads show your shot at the different distances on the targets. They also give some info such as velocity and ES at the distance shot. You need to come over and we'll go shoot out there sometime! Bring that 325WSM and put it thru it's paces!

Wow, if you couple learn to squeeze off between heart beats you might get in down to .07.
Jk, pretty awesome group for anyone ,
I'd take that at 200 yds

I got some work ahead of me! That is excellent shooting!!
I likely got lucky Tim! I have got to go back and be able to consistently repeat those results. The weather was cold, 35 degrees and 46% humidity, BP 28.88 I believe, and 560 density altitude. It was exactly what I wanted to test in tho as it was close to hunting conditions as I could hope for! :D

Ive took several people out west with me antelope hunting that didn't THINK they could kill anything past 200 yards. I would range the animal, dial the dope, set my rifle up, then tell them to get behind it and kill that antelope. To a person their response has been "I cant kill that!" My answer has always been "you do your part, that rifle will do its part". LOL I had one guy say all that and after killing a doe at 650 yards, before he even got up, he asked how much I wanted for my gun. I told him it wasn't for sale but its just a gun. He said "No, Im buying this rifle!" I told him "some things aren't for sale Donnie, that rifle is one of them."

Steve that is some extremely good shooting, congratulations on the results.

You applying each year for a TN elk tag?

My PAST recoil pads are in my ammo/target/tool box. The 300's can truly leave a mark.

Once again, great shooting.

Thanks Dave, and I messed up for sure by not having my PAST recoil pad in play. I haven't applied for the TN elk tag tho. I might look into that.
