congrats
You can load straight TSS in the 12, but anything over 1 5/8 ounces is overkill since you can get away with small shot sizes (8.5, 9 & 9.5). Because of this, most people load 2 3/4" and 3" shells for the 12 GA. For the simple reason you can get 1 5/8 oz shot in a 3" 20 GA hull, most people are toting the 20 due to it being lighter to tote all day, while not sacrificing any performance out to 55 yards or so. I loaded and shot a blend of TSS/HEVI (1 oz of each) and TSS/Lead (1 oz of TSS, 1 1/4 oz of lead) in my 12 GA this year and it performed well. I blended it to cut down on the cost of each shell as 1 ounce of TSS is half the cost of 2 ounces.muddyboots":1nna2cem said:Can you load this in the 12 or is there no advantage over the 20?

Andy, just curious as to what size shot you used for your TSS/ Hevi shot loads?Andy S.":1ons2t4w said:I loaded and shot a blend of TSS/HEVI (1 oz of each) and TSS/Lead (1 oz of TSS, 1 1/4 oz of lead) in my 12 GA this year and it performed well. I agree. I started shooting 12g 3" 2oz of 8.5x9's TSS last season. The recoil is nothing compared to the nitros I had been shooting prior to the switch to TSS.Andy S.":3u69eobv said:#7 HEVI and #8.5 or #9 TSS for a 2 ounce load in a 3" shell. Recoil is there but nothing like 3.5" Nitros or MagBlends.
Once you cross over to the TSS side. There is no return!! You will have those nitros for sale in the classified section in order to buy more TSS.muddyboots":817upirp said:Well yawl have me fired up. I think I'll try it for next yr

If so, I'd recommend a .675 choke or thereabouts. I'd shoot your rhino first to see how it performs before buying a new choke, but generally speaking, TSS loads do not have to be choked like lead and HTL loads.
You cannot go wrong on the straight #8.5s or straight #9s as Rock stated. The blend I mention is really not a blend, and it is really just a result of me tinkering with different loads and such. I don't blend the shot, I just load 1 ounce of #8s or #8.5s on bottom and 1 ounce of #9s on top, which takes a little more time to weigh out because I keep them in two different containers and each size has to be weighed individually. Straight #8.5s (270-280 pellets per ounce) or #9s (360/ounce) will serve you well.Rockhound":fne8no15 said:Andy's my buddy but I'm gonna disagree on the blend part, I'd go with straight 8.5s or 9s IMO blending really isn't worth the trouble
