Does anyone remember when everyone said Heupels offense would NEVER work in the SEC? Or how UT was gonna be in a 5-6 year rebuild. Remember everyone saying this offense wasn't going to get players to the NFL.That UT would have recruiting problems because the BIG FISH want to play in a NFL system.

Hey, do you guys remember when everyone thought Heupel would NEVER have a good defense with NFL talent and that the new AD was just hiring his buddy, not the best man for the job... Good times, good times.

I'll admit I was one. He didn't do well at UCF and that's what I went on. I think it's a lot to do with the amount of money nil is getting to the players. So he is getting elite talent now. I was one of them that was wrong.

He really didn't have Elite talent in 2022 and won 11 games. He was using a QB that got beached at virgina tech, a WR people was giving up on and calling a bust. And a spotty roster. NIL did help alot with Nico, and the guys going forward.

We also seen teams like A&M spend big money and not do squat. I'm sure FSU spent a good amount this year.

With the NIL program college football/sports will be an ever-changing landscape for coaches to navigate, some will do well others a flash in the pan and others just wont make it work. I hope the Vols get/keep program stability across all sports and return to national prominence year after year. Vols are headed that way but its a long bus ride. But right now, ITS GREAT TO BE A TN VOL!!!!!!GBO

The Vols certainly look like a top 10 or even top 5 team right now, and will likely make the 12 team playoff, but there is still a lot of football to play. Vols haven't been in the SEC championship game in over 15 years. Florida, South Carolina, GA, LSU, Auburn, Bama and Missouri have all been there multiple times since Tennessee's last appearance. Out of all of those teams I wouldn't consider more than 2 real powerhouses right now.

You along with myself and a boatload of other Vol fans were wrong on that one. I don't remember hardly anyone being excited about the hire. I agree with the NIL piece as well. Without it we probably aren't in the same position as where we stand today. Heup ended up being the perfect hire at the perfect place at the perfect time.

We were a dumpster fire. I remember being excited when we hired Pruitt. It didn't take long to realize that was a Saban-devised scheme to cripple us for years. It was pure genius.

After the crap that he left behind, no one with any reputation was going to take that job.

No one really knew much about Danny White, but he is the catalyst, along with Chancellor Plowman in cleaning house from the old regime.

You have to give him credit for having the balls to bring Heupel in.

I'll say it again, but we are so fortunate to have him. He has reversed the roles for the TN fan from taking crap from rival fans for YEARS to dishing it out now if they choose.

As the latest SEC short so greatly put it with TN saying to the fairy godmother granting wishes, "You owe me!"

I wasn't sold on him at first, but I did think his offense would work as I posted this January of 2021. Missouri averaged 38pts per game in 2017 with Heupel as the OC 32per game in 2016.... His teams at UCF average over 42per game. He was a good OC at Oklahoma as well he was just used at the escape goat. They averaged 32 in 2013 and 36 in 2014 when he was fired.

The people that bring up his time at UCF he won double digit games the first 2 years? And yes, fell to 6-4 year 3 during the shorten COVID year when half the team jumped ship. Take the Covid year away his won 10+ Games 3 of the last 5 years his been a HC. I think he makes it to 10 wins again in 2024.

Yes, Tennessee was bad for along time everyone knows.

And now they very well finish in the top 8 two of the last 3 years.
