• Help Support TNDeer:

Agree or Disagree?

For reference guys, I don't think it should be changed either. A buddy sent me that and was very opinionated in support of 1 buck, i just wanted to see what the consensus here was.

I've hunted for over 40 years and don't believe I've ever killed more than two bucks in one season. I'm fine with out current limit.

If there was verifiable proof that the limit was necessary, I would be all for it. IMHO, So many times the impetus for the limit is not for the states hers, it is to attract out of state hunters to purchase tags for a "trophy". They get caught up in the bureaucracy where everything is for the bottom line and not what is best for the people of the state and the deer herd health.

I agree fully, more bucks live with a 1 or 2 buck limit!Im seeing bigger bucks in my county the last several years!

Dropping from a 3 buck limit hasn't increased my sightings of bucks or bigger ones. Not sure dropping it again would gain anything other than lost hunting time. may go back to shooting spikes Just Because lol

Just kind of surprised more folks didn't disagree with the opening statement right off without having to read all the supporting statements that followed.

FWIW, if they were to change it to one... in east TN they should change the doe harvest... East TN doe harvest is not like most of the state in the ability to put more meat in the freezer... sometimes people will shoot a small buck for meat when they cannot shoot a doe

FWIW, I have not shot a buck the last two years as I did not see one I wanted to shoot... but I do have the ability to shoot does for the freezer where I hunt but if I hunted farther east, that would be different

I'd be interested to see information that is impossible to see… but if they changed it to one buck… how many less bucks would be killed? I don't mean checked in, I mean actually killed. It's so easy to cheat I'd be surprised if it had any impact at all. Even if you're checking them in there's friends with tags, kids or parents with tags… I'd be all for it solely for personal reasons, but I doubt it would have ANY impact on the areas I hunt

I think the two buck limit is just fine. I actually killed two bucks this year. First time in my life I've done that and I've been hunting for 55 years! I can remember the foggy distant past when where I lived it was Buck only with a limit of one. In order to kill a doe you had to apply for a permit and receive one. Things are much better for hunters today and I am thankful for game departments for managing our herd so well. I have no problems with Hunters who desire to only shoot a trophy buck. Although I'm always waiting for a monster buck to show up, I have no problem shooting a younger buck who at least has branched antlers. That being said if I shot a non trophy Buck early in the season and was still hunting for meat and then saw a really good buck I would be disappointed if I was prohibited from taking it.

Between CWD, poachers, crapping shooting, those deer not recorded, illegals , and cars…… a lot of good bucks are not killed by hunters and don't get a chance for full maturity.

I have places you can literally sit for three weeks straight and not see a doe, but can see a different buck every sit. All these shoot a doe for meat let the bucks alone, 1 buck limit folks dont have a clue what their saying. It would be detrimental to alot of east tn properties to replace yet another buck tag with a doe! I just dont have the deer density on most of my places to shoot another doe.
You don't have the deer density but you're claiming a buck to doe ratio that is that unbalanced??
You should have a great opportunity to grow some good bucks then?

I'm in NE county and no where I hunt has a buck to doe ratio anything close to yours

You must be talking to those other than east Tennessee guys . You'd be very fortunate to kill two does and why because I've let does walk for years hoping to build up the herd.
I'm not for a reduction in buck limits or an earn a buck but before a jump to a one buck tag, I would be for the second tag to be an earn a buck
I hunt counties in NE Tn and seeing does isn't a problem!
Properties around me are over run with large doe social groups that push most young bucks away
If you guys are seeing so many more bucks than does, maybe we could work a trade, you come here on doe days and take a couple and I will come to you and take a buck hahahahah just teasing of course but it's that bad where I hunt

Im claiming i see way more bucks than does yes, because i know where they cruze these mountains going between farms that do hold some does. To actually sit and see does doesnt happen. If you take away another buck tag than yes my freezer is screwed because we cant afford to shoot another doe on a lot of these mountain properties. Could i go to certain ag properties around me and see more does yes, do i have permission, no. So it isn't actually the balance is so bad off its me personally i dont have the places that hold does just cruzing bucks.

If your wanting a small buck(guaranteed )or the occasional good buck(that i cant promise) than i say deal😂 i love summer sausage made from does😂

I hear ya on this one
Our mountains are getting better population wise, but nothing like the foothills, farms and private
But ole big money has most of that stuff wrapped up around here
Seems like you have to know someone to catch a break otherwise
