Ames Plantation Hunting Club Shrinking

I hate to hear this. I would never have imagined that Ames would be sold off. I thought that UT owned it. I grew up in LaGrange and worked on Ames in the summer with what they called the hamburger crew, teenagers doing manual labor, cutting grass, etc. There was no club then as far as I know. We had permission to hunt and fish the whole place. I loved hitting those out of the way ponds and caught some great bass from them.

Same here though, all of the cotton/corn fields are turning into porch to patio subdivisions with cookie cutter houses stacked on top of each other.

. . . . . all of the cotton/corn fields are turning into porch to patio subdivisions with cookie cutter houses stacked on top of each other.
All the more reason we need to support increasing acquisitions of "public" lands, to NOT be developed. I prefer to see this done more by private citizens than government agencies.

At least at the moment, it appears the Ames property is not going to be "developed",
but is just going to have some changes in ownership & how managed?

But speaking of government, how many hunters realize that the much of the demand for more housing is being driven by our federal government's not only allowing, but actually encouraging, tens of millions of illegal aliens to just come into America?

People have to stay somewhere, even illegal aliens.
Much of their housing is being paid for via your tax dollars, in more ways than most can even imagine.
Many of those cookie cutter houses, being built by private enterprise, will in turn house many illegal aliens, and much at your expense.

The population explosion in the United States is now almost totally due to illegal aliens & "anchor" babies being born at a very high rate (compared to U.S. citizens' birthrates).

That's cool you used to work there! Yes, a trust with UT still has say over the plantation. I can assure anyone, that a subdivision is not in the future for the land being sold. The property is not good for much beside wildlife and growing trees. It's miles past the middle of nowhere.

Full of Yankees and Californians and illegals. ready to ruin every bit of our once beautiful countryside. Went to a spot we've gone to for years on Cherokee lake last weekend. Full of Mexicans wall to wall couldn't even park. Throwing cast nets and boiling all the fish in a big pot. I'm about ready to move out of here. Once the out of staters get into our local politics. You can write this place off. Not to offend if you've been in TN long time then you are not who I'm talking about.

Dude sevier co is the worst!

I'm happy the state is buying it versus a private group! At least it won't turn into a deer sanctuary and eventually it will be available for the public to hunt. Maybe 2025, it will open up to hunters in the form of a quota hunt of some sort. In the interim, bucks will have a chance to get a little older.

Dang, almost $4100 per acre purchase price... would have never thought a tract that size would bring that much in such a remote location with no ag land.
There's lots of harvestable timber which is driving up the price. Plus there is some priceless tree research that's decades deep as well as a ton of historical and archaeological sites. The state is also dedicated to protecting the water aquifer that feeds Memphis. All told it's a valuable and special piece of property.

I played a ton of rec softball in my life. Had some time and went by a park last night, on the base in Smyrna. Thinking I might see at least a couple of people from when I played ball. Walked into park, 3 fields, no one speaking english. 6 teams, lots of fans. Found out it is a Venezuelan league, they have been there 3 years, 3 nights a week. They got kicked out of Nashville parks because they are rude, litterbugs and threatened of umpires. Smyrna official I know said if they had continued what they were doing last year they were going to get kicked out of there. All Venezuelan players and fans, all here legally?

They probably spend the other 3 nights commandeering apartment buildings. They're Catholic, so Saturdays are for mass. :D
