Bama/Texas

I think he was down but it's close. He's laying on top of the defender but his left hand is on the ground. Can't tell for sure if he throws it away before his forearm/elbow hits the ground. Again credit him for at least making the refs and review office make a call rather than holding onto it for a definite safety.
hand on the ground is not "down" (just like feet) in football. It takes an elbow, knee, back, thigh etc...
I know and that's why I wrote the sentence after it. 😉

Guess I'll be the odd ball again and say not a safety.

QB was obviously not down and with a forward throwing motion of his arm he threw the ball perpendicular to the line of scrimmage. The ball deflected off a defenders helmet and to the ground. Hard to see how that's grounding.
No… it was a safety.

My thoughts for what it's worth. Very sloppy game by Bama. 15 penalties and several more that were not called. Lots to clean up.

Regarding the controversial safety/not safety call. Let's say it was. In that case...Bama more than likely wins by 2 points instead of 1, if not more. Why do I say that? The next few plays after that safety/non safety call, Bama couldn't move the ball and had to punt...giving Texas great field position in which they could only capitalize on with a field goal. If it was a safety call...Bama wouldn't have had to punt, therefore no Texas possession with great field position, and no field goal. Instead, it would give Bama another chance...who knows, might have ended with a TD. It's all speculation talk but I'm pretty sure with the safety, the following Texas FG wouldn't have happened.

You do know that if they would have called it a safety bamaproud still would have had to have kicked the ball back to Texas from their 20, right? So they would have got the possession plus 2 points.

Unless something goes horribly wrong, a kickoff ball goes farther than a punt. That would have negated the great field position they had after the punt. Even then, all they could manage was a FG. If they started farther back, there's no guarantee of them getting to FG range and thus no 3 points to add to that 2 pt safety. You can argue it either way...lots of IFs. And IF a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its butt when it hopped.

I said it last year and I firmly believe that bammers reign as dominant is in the rear view mirror. Not saying they won't continue to be competitive, but their dominance is over. Too many teams building powerful programs. NIL sealed the deal IMO. It can't come soon enough. Everybody but the bammers are sick of them. Wonder what team bandwagon nation will jump to next?

Hope I'm not the one being labeled a band wagon fan. I was going off the replays I'd seen that didn't show his calf touching. With that view he was definitely down.

For the record I'm a TN grad and lifelong fan. My wife's late grandmother was such a TN homer that Bama jelly was banned in her house. I just like to call it like I see it regardless of who it is.

There are still more alabama bandwagon fans around where I live, but Georgia is gaining on them. I've seen more Georgia license plates on cars in 2022 than I ever have and it's not even close. I wonder why. It is just amazing to me that people have no loyalty. I tell the bandwagon fans I know that if you could go back in time and swap alabama and Auburn's football histories they all would be Auburn fans. There's no denying it. It's all about the wins.

Those people think that when their team wins, they win…. It's the only good thing that happens to them
