I am getting ready to shoot a black bear and I had a couple questions. Does anyone know of an affordable taxidermy? Or know a diy on tanning the hide. I'm in Kingsport Tn

I've been wondering the same. I'd be thrilled with a rug from a bear I'd killed, but the ones for sale are over $1k.

My plan for when I get one is to skin out myself and send to a tannery. They will flesh it out and complete the tanning. Then I will have the hide finished into my rug.

About 175 for flesh out and $30/linear foot. Much higher tanning quality than I suspect the local taxidermist does and. If I skin it out, I can only be mad at me for cutting the hide.

I dont need incredible quality as it will be used in making viking garb for SCA reinactment. it just needs to be a bear fur that I can make look like an authentic Berserkir cloak/drape.

If you are in East Tn. Look up East Tn Tannery he does my stuff for me.
