In tailwaters I have the most luck with midges.

In wild streams, I almost always fish with elk hair caddis flies or bead head pheasant tails.

Although, recently I've been catching a bunch of fish on the pink squirrel.

I've been thinking about tying this with cat hair and calling it the pink........ feline.

I pretty much tie all flies in size 16, including the midges.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Trout Magnets yet.

They flat out catch fish, all species, hands down. I've caught just about everything that swims in Tennessee on them but in the Caney you can't keep the trout off your line. It's almost cheating except it can be challenging to not lose the fish on 2# test line. Don't be fooled that such a small lure only catches stockers. You'll catch plenty of stockers but lots of trophy Browns have also been caught on them. It hasn't happened to me yet but the time is coming.
