Found both of these in my yard in Trousdale County.

US Calvary bit boss

Duke of Wellington button (circa 1815-1816) that civil war officers often had on their coats.

Yea. My family has been in my holler since the 1790s, so I grew up with the stories. There were confederate guerillas in my area that the US Calvary hunted down (one is buried in my family cemetery). I know Toetown road but not the property. My cousin is married to an Oldham so I bet he knows it.
