Deer in residential neighborhoods

Big question is when do the cities determine this is a problem, I've seen 8 or 10 of them stampede and run wide open through several yards……I'm starting to worry about little old ladies working in their flower gardens around dusk
What would you suggest they do.
Hendersonville would love to know.

I could kill ten deer and I don't think it would make a difference……I think it's gotten away from us concerned citizens
Those ridges over there are crawling with deer and yea goodluck not having a problem in Lakesite. I seriously doubt you can do anything about it in that neighborhood for one that's a good bit of houses and secondly it's a big neighborhood with I say more than a few "Karens".

Yep, that's exactly right, I don't live in the lakesite proper but out on peninsula point which lakesite annexed so I don't really know the rules out here…….I just know it's getting to be a problem

In all seriousness...

1) Are you actually within "city limits"?

2) If you are within city limits, What exactly are the city's rules, regs and ordinances? You might be surprised to learn that you can hunt within city limits following the "city's rules". You can hunt waterfowl on the TN river within Knoxville city limits--if you play by the rules.

3) You said something about the TN river nearby--is there any TVA public land along the river? If the water is down, you can hunt the exposed lake bottom.

Just brainstorming...
Cities can't make and enforce hunting laws.
Hunting is regulated by the state.
Where I live, you can shoot guns in the city limits. You can't shoot within 100 yds of a dwelling unless it's yours.

I'm across the lake with the same deer problem. They think our plant are a salad bar. The only two ways I know to get rid of them is to harvest them or make it legal to let dogs run. They don't like dogs. I like the idea of harvesting with a crossbow.

You talking about pulling up your plants? You dont harvest deer you kill them!😁

Crossbow? Who is responsible when that deer runs 20 yards ,jumps a fence is is now dead on someone's else's property. Or runs out to the middle of a school yard and dies in front of the kids. We can't kill enough of them quick enough to make a dent in the population.
No easy fix for this problem

Is it legal to hunt deer inside city limits? If the TWRA has a season set for that area, yes. Nashville has a "no firearms discharge" law. Yet the TWRA has a gun deer season set for Davidson County. This has been tested several times with those hunting inside the city with a gun being arrested, but it is always thrown out in court because the State's Supreme Court has said TWRA regulates hunting, not individual cities. Of course, who wants to go through that trouble?

But then your original question was, what can be done about high deer densities inside cities and suburbs. Nothing can be done about it. Without significant hunter removal, the deer population will continue to expand.

Got some good news for y'all. I also live in Hendersonville and found out you can hunt deer in city limits with a bow. No guns and you do have to have a permit but you can hunt them.

Not sure what the legislation is in Soddy Daisy but I think it would genuinely be worth contacting the local authorities and asking about allowing permit bow hunting in city limits. The precedent has been set by several other TN cities so it isn't a wild idea. No firearm is being discharged.. as long as y'all don't mind bow hunting its open for business.

Mr. Bro, not sure what part of Hville you're in but if you haven't been down douglass bend in a while you ought to ride down there. Looks like a deer petting zoo.

Good luck fellas

You harvest crops and kill animals, pretty simple😂
Not to be argumentative but when you spray plants with Roundup are you harvesting them or killing them? We are saying the same thing just semantics. Anyway, crossbow head shot if your good enough. I have the same problem thinking about the shot deer during next to a neighbors front door. Not good. Somehow they killed (harvested) a lot of deer at the Hermitage over here and I don't see them anymore. Was herds of them there. Must have been professionals. That's Davidson county.

Yes you can bow hunt the cities. Still have that problem of how to retrieve your deer on someone's else's property. Same tame deer on the peninsulas in downtown.
Hard to kill em when the grandchildren have em named

Just tell the grandkids that was a different deer... 😁

And I reckon you'd have to knock on someone's door and explain the situation
