I admit I don't watch hunting shows very often, but every time I do I am reminded why. I used to like the Primos boys better than most and I saw it was turkey hunting so I turned it on. The guy had 2 remote control decoys. One picks his fan up and down and the other flops around on the ground like a fish out of water. Then he has the nerve to brag about how he worked that bird in. Maybe I'm just not up with the times. What a joke.

That's another reason I watch self filmed videos on YouTube, there are some guys out there who get stellar footage that you don't see on tv.

ill watch some shows but I hardly ever watch a turkey hunting show. im like catman I like watching some of the peoples youtube videos. some of the products on the market that these guys are advertising is just embarrassing.

I absolutely despise pretty much every single hunting show and hunting tv "star". Pretty much every show is staged in some way or utilizes some absurd gimmick to make killing things look easy.

The cool guy speed metal music, skull and crossbone logos, tatoos of game animals, vehicles covered in stickers etc etc etc are the cellar of this tradition.

It's part of my huge disdain for the whole blind/decoy stuff, every swinging you know what on TV is staked out in a blind with a decoy killing turkeys. Gone are the old days of watching a hunter move through the woods and set up on a gobbling bird which comes in and dies.

The shows and younger generation glorify the kill rather than the hunt, and it seems as if most "hunters" these days don't enjoy the hunt or the experience, rather only relish in the death and publicity they might receive.

Rant mode off :D , this stuff really crawls up my rear and gets me stirred up. I'm exhausted from Grouse hunting all weekend and going to bed...haha.

I agree Cat. I would rather watch your videos than these clowns that are "professional" hunters and pro staffers.

I second everything you just said. And, on top of that, I will go to the NWTF convention this weekend and there will be a line with hundreds of people in it just waiting to shake the hand of and take a picture with the famous Michal Waddell and company (insert the name of any hunting "pro"), buy their stupid ass funky turkey decoy, buy "swamp donkey" and "smoked him" T-shirts, get more decals to put on their trucks, and believe that they are great white hunters. All the while, 90% of them will walk past Tom Kelly's booth and not give a second thought to who that old guy is with all the books. Makes me want to vomit.

I don't TOTALLY agree with everything you said, but pretty much do, and particularly totally agree with what I re-posted.

IMO, "hunting" shows are mostly just one big "paid advertisement", and have done far more harm than good to the future of hunting.

Where do you draw the line between a decent hunting show with sponsors, and a hunting mega-infomercial "show"? They all gotta have sponsors for the money but seems too many of them are only about the sponsors' latest gimmicks and showing a quick kill of a trophy animal, and not about the hunt. One of the sponsored shows I will watch on youtube is Bowhunt or Die because a lot is self filmed and there is some quality video of fair chase hunts, but they do have sponsors and show new products and such. Which doesn't bother me because the hunting is good and they have to make some money too.

You guys are spot on.

I am with you SS. No line standing for me either. The best thing about those celebrity lines, we get to move thru the real hunting stuff with more ease. :)

BTW, I will have a Sharpie with me. For $25 I will sell you "plinks" autograph, guarantee no wait time and pose for a picture for an additional $5 (you must supply your own camera). :D Hope to see you there!

I still enjoy watching Primos hunting shows, as far as the decoys go I'll never have any because I can't afford them but a lot of people will have them, if it's legal and it will help you kill a turkey then why not.

Really anymore all of them are just ad campaigns or self promoting. I much prefer to watch a hunt of an average joe self filming then anything with production elements. The self filmed hunts usually capture the essence of a hunt and focus on the hunt rather then ginning up excitement over a personality or product.

I've got pretty strong feelings when it comes to this stuff as most know. Hunting is a sport between man and beast not a popularity contest or celebrity event. There is nothing glorious about killing and the only recognition should be felt by the individual hunter and not a group of posers clinging on.

In addition, the speed metal, skulls, blood worshipping sticker covered vehicle crowd wants the world to look at them and acknowledge they're a hunter. Nothing wrong with being proud of your hobbies, but doing it in such an outlandish fashion draws negative attention IMO. Again as I said earlier the joy of hunting is in the hunt and from my experience the guys who fit the above mold completely miss what makes this stuff so much fun.

Sadly when I see a truck covered in stickers I just assume it's either some college frat boy or a person I'd rather not interact with as they're view of hunting and mine are completely different. My stance on this is twisted as well, but it comes from my experiences with these types.

I am not one that falls into if it's legal it's all good category. Just because some govt official decides something is good for me doesn't make it so. My ethics go above what's legal.

I just believe the great wild turkey deserves more respect than to be lured in by electronic calls, remote control decoys, etc.

If someone can't kill a turkey without all those gadgets, maybe they shouldn't be killing turkeys.

i watch them from time to time if nothing is on and i take them for what they are. The turkey thug ones actually were decent at one time now there are more commercials then footage so I usually pass on those as well.

Turkey and Turkey hunting at one time had a great one as most of the show was spent on the biology of turkeys not so much the shooting of them. I still have a few recorded from years ago i watch every now and then.

While I agree with this, I will not agree that using decoys, pop-up blinds, etc. is "all bad" either. Much of our opinions are simply a formation of localized traditions, neither good nor bad.

I'm sure there's some who feel decoys shouldn't be allowed for duck hunting, and elevated tree stands should not be allowed for deer hunting.

I'm all for making it more about the hunt than the kill, but will be slow to criticize those who need a crutch.

They are all pushing this and that product
Very seldom do you watch them running and gunning
and hardly ever show a woods hunt. This is part of the reason
I quit going to the convention along with the crowd and noise
