Disgusted

Where do you draw the line between a decent hunting show with sponsors, and a hunting mega-infomercial "show"? They all gotta have sponsors for the money but seems too many of them are only about the sponsors' latest gimmicks and showing a quick kill of a trophy animal, and not about the hunt. One of the sponsored shows I will watch on youtube is Bowhunt or Die because a lot is self filmed and there is some quality video of fair chase hunts, but they do have sponsors and show new products and such. Which doesn't bother me because the hunting is good and they have to make some money too.

Really anymore all of them are just ad campaigns or self promoting. I much prefer to watch a hunt of an average joe self filming then anything with production elements. The self filmed hunts usually capture the essence of a hunt and focus on the hunt rather then ginning up excitement over a personality or product.

I've got pretty strong feelings when it comes to this stuff as most know. Hunting is a sport between man and beast not a popularity contest or celebrity event. There is nothing glorious about killing and the only recognition should be felt by the individual hunter and not a group of posers clinging on.

In addition, the speed metal, skulls, blood worshipping sticker covered vehicle crowd wants the world to look at them and acknowledge they're a hunter. Nothing wrong with being proud of your hobbies, but doing it in such an outlandish fashion draws negative attention IMO. Again as I said earlier the joy of hunting is in the hunt and from my experience the guys who fit the above mold completely miss what makes this stuff so much fun.

Sadly when I see a truck covered in stickers I just assume it's either some college frat boy or a person I'd rather not interact with as they're view of hunting and mine are completely different. My stance on this is twisted as well, but it comes from my experiences with these types.
my truck has a couple of stickers, one of them is Tndeer.com sticker, so you can't be hating me :D

One thing you won't see on my truck is a Realtree sticker, Mossy Oak, Browning, and especially not Bone Collector.

I still enjoy watching Primos hunting shows, as far as the decoys go I'll never have any because I can't afford them but a lot of people will have them, if it's legal and it will help you kill a turkey then why not.
I agree not every state is it illegal to use such and if it is legal I am not going to put them down for it.

I have decoys and a lot of turkey calls and several blinds.I bought most of them cheap. I use the same mouth call most of the time.I use a box and slate when the birds are quite just to mix it up and not get bored. If the turkey are working good then the mouth call will pull them in to the tree I'm by.I don't like hunting fields I like to hunt the woods and sit by a tree and call them in

It's a shame what decoys have done to traditional spring gobbler hunting, IMO.
It may be as much an issue of many hunters having only a small acreage to hunt as it is an issue of decoys. Many turkey hunters simply do not have the opportunity to do the more traditional "run & gun" style of turkey hunting, or when there's too many turkey hunters hunting on too small an acreage, some opt for a different tactic. Beyond that, imo, it's more an issue of decoys being overly "marketed" way beyond their true worth (and ignoring their often greater liability to the hunter using them).

Many of the most skilled of hunters will still use things they believe gives them better opportunities, including better chokes, better guns, better shells, better vests, better clothes, better places. Meanwhile, some guys using decoys are hunting with a traditional long bow on a 5-acre tract, while I'm using hevi-shot, custom chokes, and fine optics for my "traditional" turkey hunt.

Turkey decoys are often as counter-productive as productive, and that's part of why I don't use them much, and just look at them as an option for certain circumstances. I have a bigger problem with fall turkey hunting, with or without decoys.

Goofy. That's how I look using a mouth call, especially from the view of my non-hunting friends. :D

It's a shame what diaphragm mouth calls have done to traditional spring turkey hunting. Used to take real skill to know when to move that paddle on a Lynch box call without being seen.

Come on Wes. You know there is a difference in a learned skill like running a mouth call verses a goofy mechanical remote control decoy that flops around like a fish out of water. I get the devil's advocate act, but you can't take it that far.

I just do not like how they are mostly sit in a blind in a big ag field and wait for turkeys to come for their decoys. I am not anti blind or anti decoy. I am anti sit in a field with a blind and decoy. It just isn't real turkey hunting. I can sit and wait during deer season.

I buy all the stickers so people know I'm serious about it :D

But seriously, I've used a blind and decoys, its not my preferred method of hunting and I really dont want to do it,but wwhen Iwas on graveyard shift I would use that tactic just to be in the woods. I never was very successful but I did manage some good naps.

The only affliction I really have for spring Turkey hunting are overpriced shells and custom made calls

Same for me, I am good with the hunter who has a couple stashed in their vest and whips them out when needed to take down a bird, or if there's a problem field bird breaking them out to deal with him. But it loses me when every hunt consists of a decoy spread and a blind.

I get this as well, however IMO there is no comparison between a production call and a custom call.

I shoot standard lead loads and kill generally every bird I shoot at. I'm sort of a purist and won't shoot at a bird over 35 yards usually, so shooting million dollar bullets is of zero benefit to me. Folks can do what they want with their money though

You guys are to much lol
Why look down your noses at other hunters ? We have enough people doing that. Lol
