It's rumored that it can be had for $38 per pound shipped to your door 5 pound minimum.
Cheapest I've ever found it FROM A PERSON (another hunter) was "advertised" at $38.50/pound (5# minimum), but they added shipping ($10-15), thus total cost to me would be $40/pound delivered to my door. They did not have it on hand, and turn around time was going to be 6-8 weeks and I had to prepay (some level of risk involved). Hunters who want it "now" without much risk see Hal and others as very viable sources, for not a lot more money.

I ordered from Hal back in late March. It was about $43 delivered. That was 3lbs of #9.
All you gotta do is email him if need updated prices.
Now I need someone to split some hulls, was etc with.

You must have some REALLY BIG HARD HEADED turkeys in Hardin county........ :stir: :tu:

There was 3 in Hardin county this year that couldn't tote 8.5s but I like 8s to

I've always shot 8s or 8.5s in the 12 ga too, just because I like a little overkill, and in a 2 oz or 2.25 oz load, you've got enough volume to justify the slightly lower per oz pellet count. But I've got a line on some 19g/cc shot, and with that, I will probably go to 9s. Based on the KPY ballistics program, they'll have way plenty of penetration for turkeys out past 80 yards, and on my worst day, I would never be mad enough or misjudge one enough to shoot at one near that far.

Good stuff! My last order was for some 19g/cc 9/9.5s (390-400/ounce). As you stated, they'll penetrate and kill WAAAY further than we should be shooting.

Yes, at 35$lb for tss 38$ to me shipped I will stock up a lifetime of tss before it's over. Shiny, polished and top end density. I'll take it!!

Ha ha. That's what he had in stock. I'm not picky what goes thru their noggins and yep rockhound. They can't handle 2 1/2 oz of 8s. Is it overkill. Yes. Is it too much. Yes. Blah blah blah. I sure do like it though. Lol

Anyone looking for #9s, I got 10 lbs I'm looking to get rid of. I've got 2 5lb bags, not going to break it down smaller than 5 lbs. $225/bag shipped with insurance TYD.

Andy, this is correct that you ordered 9.5's?
:)
If so, just genuinely curious at to why the 9.5's over the 9's?
No reason in particular, but did like the fact they were a little denser (19g/cc), but not like that matters in the real world of turkey hunting. After a little more research and talking with the source, my latest order will run more closely to 9.25s (0.078" diameter pellets), but they will be 19g/cc, so the number of pellets in each ounce of shot with be comparable to 18g/cc #9s. With that said, I have some 18g/cc true 9.5s (420 pellets per ounce, 0.075" diameter pellets) that I got from Hal few years back. My intent at that point was to load some .410 shells, but I have not got around to it yet. See website below for pellet diameter size.

There are several of the TSS gurus/loaders/testers hunting with 9.5s now, or have hunted with them, and they claim no difference in killing ability based on their field experience. I am not talking about 20 yard shots, if you get what I am saying, without me saying it and promoting it. Based on their reports, the 9.5s will cleanly kill further than we should ever shoot. Some of the guys who have hunted with the 9.5s hunt very open areas like TX, KS, NE, etc, thus their average shot distance far exceeds what is typical for me and many of us who hunt TN landscape. #9s still dominate the market and are what the majority of TSS shooters are hunting with these days.

........but some 9s are sized differently actually more like 9.5s.....
Very true, it is not an exact science, or at least not from what I have seen. In general, if I order 18g/cc TSS that is advertised as #9s, I expect to receive something in between a 9 and 9 1/2. Furthermore, the majority of the 18g/cc TSS I have received has miked out around 9.25s, or 390/ounce, so basically, right in the middle.

For 18g/cc
#9s - 360/ounce (0.08")
#9.25s - 390/ounce (0.0775")
#9.5s - 420/ounce (0.075")
