Fanning, reaping,....

I would love to try it...but it seems like a lot of trouble. I would have to put my book down, unplug my earphones, get out off my cushioned chair, leave my comfortable blind and then crawl through all of my decoys!

Where I hunt we have a few thousand acres behind locked gates, and our land is bordered by a few thousand acres that's behind locked gates.. And in 10 yrs of hunting there I've only encountered one trespasser that was looking for his dog.. So I feel pretty safe also never got pics of trespasser on trail camera, and never had anything stolen.. So I feel pretty safe. I just don't see anything wrong with it.. I guess it's the equivalent of seeing a big buck from your fourwheeler on your way out pullin over and shooting him.. What a disgrace! You showed absolutely no skill or sportsman ship in killing that buck..
Totally kidding! I mean it's a method that works, just because you like to simply call one in don't bash the next guy.. I love run n gun turkey hunting.. And work hard for every turkey I kill whether I call him in or not.. I have a full strut decoy and will use it in certain situations, but usually it's not worth toting it... I carry a jake decoy in my vest and put it up sometimes and sometimes I don't ( usually it's to risky, bird is to close). There is more than one way to skin a cat, and personally I find this method much more appealing than sitting on a field or strut zone just waiting one out.. By that I mean just sitting and waiting. I do plenty waiting but I always know ones close ( enough) and am calling..

Its actually the equivalent of strapping a set of antler to your head and crawling around.

I have several thousand acres out of state that my family owns, that land is bordered by a seemingly impenetrable swamp, clear cuts, etc. However, over the years I've had more than one confrontation with poachers and am always surprised to learn what they went through in order to poach.

Obviously it's not something you would want to do on public land but I only hunt private land and only use this method if he's strutting in the middle of a wide open field with some hens or something. I've been doing it a few years now and every turkey I've tried it on died. Most of them come running as hard as they can right up your gun barrel. Me and my buddy crawled up on some strutting in the middle of a 80 acre field last year and we had 4 big toms meet us half way across the field and we shot 2 of them at 7 steps. I would rather call one up if I can but crawling them is a very exciting and effective way to kill one. Go ahead and start the bashing [emoji1]

I've not tried it yet but just for argument's sake I bet someone said the same thing about deer hunting out of tree stands. You know about them being dangerous and all.

I'm not going to bash you, you're hunting a wide open field where you are not likely to get mistaken for a turkey and are out of shotgun range of potential trespassers.

they are the most dangerous part of deer hunting. But they are so useful they will stay around, and safety equipment only gets better with time.

I do not want to see reaping outlawed, that sounds silly. I just hope people use common sense and don't try it in the woods or on public land. I wouldn't be against reaping made illegal on public land due to the amount of hunters. But I'm not going to complain about it, I know I won't be shooting anyone hiding behind a fan. I like to see the birds poke their heads up and look at me one last time before the lead takes flight.

That's bad but I just saw a commercial for HECS camo. It eliminates your electrical energy field so you can move around as much as you want, even stand up and animals can not detect you. Can't wait to combine fanning and the new camo together. :rotf:

Fanning them works so well there's no need for the HECS suit[emoji12]

I think I'd like to try this but the size fan it would take to hide me would likely scare off any longbeard I come across.

yup but there are people who buy into that. New hunters. Those who stick with it and keep hunting will find out they are gimmicks and move on to more tried and true products.

I used to hunt a huge cow pasture that the birds always seemed to stay in the middle. I always wanted a big cow silhouette to hold up and sneak behind. Ha Ha. I would try the fan in the right situation but im too lazy to carry a fan in my vest so I guess the situation prolly wont arise.

Get one of these and you won't even know the fan is in there
