Fanning, reaping,....

Just saw this on FAKEbook. Does this not look like an idiot begging to be shot in the face? Good Lord willing I have 30+ turkey seasons left in me. I'm not going to risk them over one stubborn bird or the adrenaline rush.

It's like driving, hunt defensively, never assume there couldn't be an idiot waiting to shoot the next thing that moves.

But also you're probably not going to get into a wreck if you are crawling with a fan across a 200 acre cut ag field out of range of potential intruders.

It's exactly like driving. On icy roads, drunk, at 80 mph, with no lights on at night, while texting. :bash:

Nothing says some jack leg could be riding around dirt roads in his pick up truck with his trusty "ought-six" and shoot some boy fanning from 200 yards away.
That is why I dont like it.
None of you have said anything about people with rifles. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean people dont do it.

Buddy of mine has some pretty remote land 700 acres he hunts. Nothing around but gravel roads. A couple years ago he was turkey hunting in April and two young guys walked by him with a scoped 22 Magnum. Said they were out plinking. It can happen anywhere.

Last year I met 2 really nice guys to some guys at Yanahli. We were hunting the same area. The day before they were working a strutter in a field and someone drove down the road, stopped, and took a couple shots with a 22. The hunters were between the bird and the poachers.

Don't think it doesn't happen or can't happen to you.

I think several people would have already died from fanning if that were a valid comparison

But that Facebook illustration is retarded, never mentions considering other potential hunters AND suggests crawling uphill which is great if there's a guy on the other side of the hill....

One of the best threads ever... interestingly some guys have killed less birds by "fanning" today than they had 4yrs ago... :stir: :stir:

You must be bored....

We're all bored. Turkey season is over and it's months until squirrel/velvet buck season starts.

It interesting to see how everyone in the start of this post was talking about hunters getting shot using this technique. Maybe I live under a rock but I haven't heard of many cases of hunters being shot. Using good judgment on private land plays into what is reasonably safe and what is foolish.
