Gay 270

I bet your two-semunty won't blow the deer's heart plum out the exit hole and leave it on the ground whole! If your wondering about the physics, the bullet passed through, blew a softball sized exit hole, and the bullet was moving so fast that the vacuum behind it sucked the heart out! That's an awesome cartridge my friends!

I'm going to start hunting using my vacuum cleaner. I may start a thread on the best to use; mine is a Shark.

The 270 hype was created by Jack O'Connor writing hunting articles about what he had done with the 270 rifle sometime in the 1930's, this was when magazines and newspapers and radio were that generations internet and this put the Winchester great into stardom.
My personal opinion is, this necked down '06 is best deer rifle I've ever used. Just sold a great old Mauser 30'06 because I never used it.
I've shot everything from 243 to 300 win mag and killed deer with them all but always picked my Browning back up , IMO its the best bang for my money, the 270 remains top of my list.
Rifle calibers come and go but there are a few that will still be around when all of us are gone and the 270 is one of those.
I was going to.comment about Jack O'Connor and his writings. He certaininly did more for the popularity of the .270 Winchester than anyone. He hunted all.over the planet with including African big game.

It's a excellent cartridge. I never owned one as I was always a 30 06 fan and never saw the need to change. But certainly respected the carteidge and everything it did speaking of Jack O'Connor his writings were also very sensible and did not always sit well with Manufacures with agendas on promoting items. For instance Varible power scopes were becoming all the rage in the 70s but were notorious for being sketchy unless you spent money on a quality scope like Leupold or Swarovski. He kept people grounded by recommending 4x scopes for eastern hunts and 6x scopes for western hunts because he felt that was all the power a man needed. And they were more reliable and clearer. And to a degree those words could be factual today.

Well I can say some about other cartridges too. None are perfect. How about guys that use various 7mm Mags. in the woods at 20 yards, or .300 Mags. I know lots of guys have used .243 rifles successfully but, they're not even close to perfect. All I said was the Creedmoor was very accurate but, not awesome for longer shots, and definitely needs good shot placement.

Placement trumps pretty much everything.

Good bullet + sufficient velocity x placement = dead stuff

I've killed the last four or five deer I've taken with a Creedmoor 6.5 barrel on my TC Encore. Handloads with 143gr Hornady ELD-X.

I'm seriously considering retiring it. Not cuz it doesn't do an outstanding job, but cuz it has absolutely MANGLED every deer I've shot with it. It's doing too much damage. I couldn't bring myself to take photos of the last deer where I walked up on it cuz it looked like a really gross crime scene. Just nasty.

Switch to a harder bullet for less damage

Accubond
Ttsx
Etc

143 eldx is pretty soft

No you said it got people in trouble, a caliber doesnt do that, bad shooting and poor decisions do, no matter the caliber

Don't ya'll find them rifles bulky?

I've been green striped by a few CM fan boys on here because of my stance...I really don't care...all things considered.
To be clear...I was a 6.5 (264) fan while they were still in grade school. I've had several CMs, and am currently hunting with one this year. Plan on buying another one in the near future. But....I didn't drink the Kool aid. The CM is the 40s&w of the 9mm, 40, 45 debate. You can look at it from 2 different sides. It doesn't really have the HP to shoot the heavies that the 6.5 got it's reputation from...plus, it's jammed into a short action...further limiting the seating depth. Yes, it does well with 140 class bullets, but it suffers with the 156-160 class. They will argue that 140 is enough...blah blah blah.
As I said...it's like the 9,40,45 debate.
Fans of the 40 will say...it's bigger than a 9 and holds more than a 45. Myself...it's smaller than a 45 and holds less than a 9.
It can be argued from both sides...just depends on how you look at it.
The CM is a good round...but it ain't no miracle cartridge. And to be honest, it has nothing to offer most hunters at practical ranges...around here. It don't even get an advantage on a 308 till about 600 yards..

Now watch how many will jump on this post about the recoil difference in the 308 and the creedmoor... 😂 While they secretly "hot" load their 300wm....because..."speed kills"... 😂
Oh and they use that 300 for shots less than 200 yards... 😂
