I can't green stripe him bc he's my buddy.I've been green striped by a few CM fan boys on here because of my stance...I really don't care...all things considered.
To be clear...I was a 6.5 (264) fan while they were still in grade school. I've had several CMs, and am currently hunting with one this year. Plan on buying another one in the near future. But....I didn't drink the Kool aid. The CM is the 40s&w of the 9mm, 40, 45 debate. You can look at it from 2 different sides. It doesn't really have the HP to shoot the heavies that the 6.5 got it's reputation from...plus, it's jammed into a short action...further limiting the seating depth. Yes, it does well with 140 class bullets, but it suffers with the 156-160 class. They will argue that 140 is enough...blah blah blah.
As I said...it's like the 9,40,45 debate.
Fans of the 40 will say...it's bigger than a 9 and holds more than a 45. Myself...it's smaller than a 45 and holds less than a 9.
It can be argued from both sides...just depends on how you look at it.
The CM is a good round...but it ain't no miracle cartridge. And to be honest, it has nothing to offer most hunters at practical ranges...around here. It don't even get an advantage on a 308 till about 600 yards..
Now watch how many will jump on this post about the recoil difference in the 308 and the creedmoor... While they secretly "hot" load their 300wm....because..."speed kills"...
Oh and they use that 300 for shots less than 200 yards...
and the 6.5 CM is?Ok? The 270 is nothing special. If you like it, great! I'm not a fan, great! It can't compete down range with the modern offerings of other cartridges. For hunting, 400 yards and in, it's fine, just as 90% of high power cartridges are. It does nothing special, and doesn't give up anything. Just another flavor, for the gays apparently.
Just another cartridge, but when loaded with high bc bullets does things most people can't wrap their heads around. It's also the manbun of cartridges. Since I don't have hair, I don't have a 6.5cmand the 6.5 CM is?
When loaded with high BC bullets. Most folks don't reload or do they shoot at deer over 400 yards. They buy a gun a couple boxes of shells go to the range and go hunting. So you're calling folks ignorant for not hunting with a cartridge you don't hunt with. Got it. still stand by my statement. It's got a long way to go to get to the body count of the 270.Just another cartridge, but when loaded with high bc bullets does things most people can't wrap their heads around. Most folks who buy factory ammo in the 6.5cm are shooting high bc bullets. We probably agree that they ain't shooting at enough distance to take advantage of it tho. No, I don't shoot a 270 anymore, and haven't in nearly 20 years. I do shoot a creedmoor, but opted for a 223 this year. It's a good thing the 270 had an 80 year head start, it's gonna need it. I'd hate to guess how many more 6.5cm chambered rifles have been sold vs any other cartridge in the last 10 years. It certainly has become highly popular. When loaded with high BC bullets. Because of hype and marketing by Hornady in large part. Its not a superior cartridge in standard loaded ammo. You're playing a game only a few are playing. I loaded some TMK's in a 223 and watched a deer die from it just as you did this year. You know enough to know the 6.5cm is not superior until you alter it to be on the loading bench. Which for all intents and purposes we can make about any center fire cartridge do more than your average guy can imagine. Most folks who buy factory ammo in the 6.5cm are shooting high bc bullets. It doesn't need altered to do it tho. Sure it helps, but the numbers don't lie. Use the factory loaded 147 eldm and go kill things. Call it hype, marketing, or voodoo, I don't care. But the numbers don't lie. The prc does it better further, with the trade off of more recoil, while still only using factory offerings. Do I think the 6.5cm makes anyone a sniper, not hardly. Most people don't put the time nor money into their rifles to learn them. It's pretty evident just in this one thread. But it does have some really good factory ammo offerings, fairly inexpensive ammo, nearly every model of rifles available today are chambered in it. Low recoil. That 147 won't do anything a 130 out of a 270 won't do. Show numbers apples to apples same grain bullets. In 90% of real world deer hunting scenarios. The 6.5 won't win any of them. Recoil is a wash in the field. I ain't saying it won't kill there ain't an idiot out there that would take one through their own ribs to prove it won't kill. Components today make them all lethal in their rightful scenarios. Just stop trying to make the 6.5 something it isn't. It is what it is and nothing more nothing less. Does it better. Run the numbersThat 147 won't do anything a 130 out of a 270 won't do.
