Harvest numbers

Looks like Saturday may be rainy again, so it will not go up a lot.

I don't doubt for a minute that the unusual weather this year has something to do with the reduced numbers but I also don't doubt that there is a major decline in the overall population.

We have had bad weather mixed into the season numerous times over the years. In the end, the season kill tended to balance out once a period of good weather hit. It will be interesting to see where we end up this year. My personal opinion is that in a lot of the state we have nowhere near the birds we had 3-4 years ago.

SCN is right... we've had much worse weather in the past. It all averages out. Anyone who thinks there aren't fewer turkeys today than 10 years ago is either in denial or just plain ignorant. And it's not just a TN thing. South MS birds have all but disappeared, and many other states are experiencing declines. The question is WHY? and WHAT CAN WE DO TO SLOW THE DECLINE OR REVERSE IT? Obviously doing nothing is NO LONGER an option.

I cant remember any worse weather for as much of the season as this year. But the last 2 seasons were extremely nice for the huge majority of seasons. For all of those who have seen the huge decline, how many of you have killed birds in TN this year?

This is my opinion too. Thankfully it has been bad weather...harvest numbers would have gone up if we had the same weather as the last couple years. THEN where would we be for next year?!?

I put a lot of trust in you guys on here, from all across the state, to tell me about the overall populations. I think guys that go out double digit days to hunt, plus scouting, year after year, have a good idea of what's going on...oftentimes more than the biologists.

I remember in the 1990's i scraped my windows almost every morning on my truck to go turkey hunting. Rain wasn't a big deal though at the same time like this year.

BTW, my son and I bagged four birds this week after weeks of sorry turkey weather. I swear they came a runnin if my call squeaked in my pocket. Good times for sure!

If it were all due to the weather and season opener on Easter weekend, the harvest would have been made up the 2nd half of the season. It's not the weather.

OFC, most of you know that rain doesn't affect turkeys. They will still breed and come to a call even if there is rain outside. It does hamper fair weather hunters, so I love it when its a rainy season, just more birds for me to chase uninterrupted.
