Have to vent

Yes it sucks!! I've found 6 shot and left laying dead and two more that were wounded and still alive. One gut shot and one with front leg just hanging. That's just since ML opened. The worst part in my case is, I managed to root out a lying neighbor about it all. It's good that I found it out...but the fact still remains that I have a lying neighbor.

It's almost like the 6.5CM isn't the problem but its the inexperienced hunters who don't know how to put a bullet where it's supposed to go are.
Most people don't shoot. They don't own land, ammo is expensive, ... (insert favorite excuse) shooting on a regular basis is somewhat a chore so they don't do it. They spend an hour at the range shortly before season and they are good to go. I live on my acreage and still don't put in the time I should all year. I do notice that even shooting rimfire I am quickly reminded of my "sinful tendencies" and have to be mindful not to repeat them. If I shot more, maybe I would exercise those faults away.

I

it's either in you are it's not
Plain & simple
Sadly, I think this is true. Knowing a few who take stupid shots, it's more about their personality and view of life than anything else. In essence, they take these bad shots because of the way the view their place in the world. No amount of "re-education" is going to solve their problems.

I feel your pain, but a little bit differently. Have 12 acres of my own to hunt and a group has leased 1800 acres that join me. They make their base camp on one side of my property line (within 70 yards) and put up a box blind and food plots within 70 yards of my food plot and box blind on the other side (because they obviously don't have any room :)). This happened 2 years ago. Have not seen a buck bigger than 120s since. I don't think they are shooting them, but they have just completely changed my little property with the constant intrusion

We went ahead and killed the 6.5yo this weekend. He was sort of our mascot last few years, nearly every adult had passed him up a couple times. He was hit right where the scapula meets the humorous, and the joint, bone above and below were exploded.

The other bucks leg is broken at the knee. He has a good chance of surviving, so we probably won't kill him.

Just feel sick that we never had to deal with this problem until last year. I found a couple deer that made it back over the fence to my land and died last year, and now already have 2 cripples still alive that I know of this year.
Sucks about the neighbors, and they probably deserve a talking to, but to me it's almost like these deer are livestock. There's no joy or congrats for killing a 6.5 year old deer? Deer are tough and he could have survived possibly. Maybe I'm missing the point but if I killed a wounded 6.5 year old deer I'd be tickled to death. I'm probably off base??

I'm about sick of this. New hunters moved in beside one of my properties, blasting and blasting and blasting.

The exploded our 6.5yo blind bucks left front shoulder. Completely unable to bear weight. He already had a tough life, deserved better than this.

Now another young buck with right leg blown off and shot thru backstraps. Just horrible.
My question is what did they shoot a deer in the shoulder with, that didnt kill it? Looks like a killing shot to me

You are not off base. A lot of people consider wild deer their "pets" or "their deer" especially with the advent of trail cams. I'd be jumping up and down if I killed a 6.5 year old deer.
Still sucks that those neighbors are bad shots though.

I'd guess safety isn't much of concern either with some bad shot takers. I've heard the sound of a bullet hitting a tree beside my stand before.

I can't speak for mega. But I took as he probably wasn't high on the shoot list. And he is more pissed off that his neighbors are just shooting to shoot and seemingly not respecting the animals is what he is mad about. Not that he isn't proud of killing a mature deer.

We had a mature very mature 10 point one year a 11 point that I let walk probably 10 to 13 times in a 3 year span. He just didn't trip my trigger. I wanted my wife to shoot him. Probably a little of that as well. Sometimes for some there more mature deer then tags it just is what it is. A good problem to have if it's even a problem.

Just different when you have followed them for years on camera and in person. You get attached to them. He deserved better.

Bout sums it up

some people sight in there rifle and if it's 5 inch's off they say that's a dead deer no matter what.or they say I'll just aim a little low or high. Well that all depends on where you aim and pull the trigger. Cause 5 inch's is huge if not put in the center behind the shoulder. I don't understand that way of thinking. If you hate shooting your gun that much take up another hobby. Not to have enough respect for the animal to sight your rifle in as close as you can get it at least is stupidity to me.
