HB 1618

Agree I hunted Ft Bragg for years. I have seen some heavy arguments for sure. But it's still up to each hunter how they hunt legally. The bill is on private property. Look at NC private landowners for baiting.
Baiting on public land in NC is illegal but happens anyway on occasion

Some people don't care about the laws

Military bases are not considered 'game lands' here so don't know about the baiting laws

You have a right to your opinion. I've hunted over 50 years in a lot of states. And yes I have hunted over bait in other states. You are intial to your view but LAZY NO, OH YA I CAN HUNT. Thank you for asking.
If you are in favor of the bill it is pretty much an admission that you are either too lazy to actually hunt or you don't know how to hunt.

I'm in Alabama and I wish they wouldn't have allowed baiting here. No bait on the WMA, just private but baiting and cell cams have been detrimental to the quality of deer able to survive IMO. Why pass that 130" 3 year old when I know for a fact there's nothing bigger around? All that leaves is the 5 year 100" bucks. 10 years of that has made it hard to even find an higher scoring older age class buck. I hate baiting. Just my two cents.

I agree to disagree. Private land is just that. No harm done. I bait in the off season with corn, salt blocks etc. I want to give as much nurturing throughout the winter to allow healthy deer in winter. No one is telling you to bait. Hunt your way.
Private land is private but all deer are public until you hang a tag on them.

Corn in the winter isn't nurturing.

Agree, the number of hunters in Tn are down. The price of license has tripled since I moved to Tn 25 years ago.
How would you conclude that the number of hunters in TN is down? With all the people that have moved into TN over the last 10 years, knowing some percentage of them are hunters, it's a literal mathematical impossibility that the hunter numbers in TN has declined.

Yes sir your right. My deer enjoy the corn and other items as well, deer feed and mineral blocks to include salt blocks.

By the number of license sales down. Most of the people in NE TN are from out of state looking for retirement homes. Here we use to see trucks parked along the road everywhere, now hardly none. Maybe I'm wrong, JMO.

If it passes, I hope that each hunter on the baited property would have to wear a minimum of 1,000 inches of Big Bird yellow instead of orange. No landowner exemption on that part.

If it's ever allowed on public, each "hunter" using corn should have to wear a full clown costume, red rubber nose included.

If there are gonna be fistfights over baitpiles, the participants should at least look the part.

I'm very much against the Bill.
Let's agree to disagree ...no need for name calling . That's how things gets out of control . Could do the same for those setting in a shooting house with a heater. If you have the means then on your own property hunt as you want only legal .

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this then. If a person wants to bypass ethics, sportsmanship, and fair chase under the guise of hunting, then I'll call it what it is.

All who are in favor of baiting can rest easy. With politicians and money involved, it'll pass eventually.

Add the number of lifetime license holders to the number of permits sold for the year then tell how low the hunting population has shrunk.

Totally agree. Well said.
If you fish do you fish with just a hook or do you bait it.🤔🤣

No different in setting in a shooting house over looking a lush food plot . Only real difference is that hunter put more money and time into the food plot . Yeah we don't hunt food plots....very few that don't. Look at the kill pics in this forum and then tell me most don't hunt food plots . I said most not everyone . This is going to get hairy if we keep this up . All I was saying to stop the name calling ....you have your right to your opinion.

There is absolutely no way that license sales are down in TN. The only way that could be presented as fact is if there is some shady methodology for how they're calculating it. And if you wish to dig further, USFWS data clearly shows that hunter numbers are not down.

If TWRA is claiming they have less operating budget then someone needs to call DOGE on their butts because they're wasting money. With hunter numbers clearly not declining, as per USFWS data, and so many people moving into TN, it's impossible that hunter numbers in TN are down.

But other than that, baiting should remain illegal in TN and there is a long thread elsewhere in which we all laid out the numerous negative effects on wild game and other wildlife as a result of piles of corn on the ground. All it does is make it significantly easier to kill deer. The cons way out-weigh the one pro.

yep, sadly as soon as enough politicians realize they know a "good ol boy" with a huge farm who will let them kill deer over bait piles, it's getting passed. Just a matter of time.

Where did I call names in this thread?

You're right Snake. I'm sorry.

Please forgive me for calling baiters…

Master Baiters
Cornholers
Pseudo hunters
Feed Trough Pimps

I honestly repent and vow to not use those names again.

…..I'll have to come up with a bunch of new ones….😁

Deeply, deeply opposed. It really gives hunters a black eye. To non-hunters, all it looks like is hunters are so lazy they have to resort to baiting to kill a deer. Which sadly, is exactly the case.
My sentiments are the same.

I'm a public land guy. I really don't care what happens on private. I don't want it allowed on public.
