I'm hanging it up..

Sage advice here. Don't give up on your MZer yet, new glass and rings and I think you will be well on your way to continued success. For me, a rest is almost always required if shooting beyond 50 yards. I know my limitations shooting freehand. Best of luck going forward.

I am thinking you're right. I get all tore up on shooter bucks and turkeys for sure.. 2 of these shots came from lock on's with no rest.

As others have said, you have a ring, scope or both issue. If your scope is a budget type or maybe has been dropped or bumped. Purchase another scope made by a reputable manufacturer. Torque the base mounts and rings to whatever spec they should be (often 30# for base and 15-20# for rings). Use a little blue loctite on them also. For the record, I've had great luck out of Burris Fullfield E 1 scopes for the money.

My muzzleloader wears a leupold 3i 50 mm, people think its over the top for a muzzleloader until i show them 1 hole groups at a 100 and 2 inch groups at two hundred! Cant shoot what you cant see! Vortex has a great warranty because your gonna need it, get a good scope and don't look back!

A lead sled will ruin a scopes guts quickly. Gun isn't allowed to recoil and all of that shock is sent thru the gun to the scope. Some scopes are better than others and a Vortex Diamondback on a lead sled isn't gonna last long. Ditch the sled…

Dang… Live and learn

I know how you feel with muzzleloaders. I killed several brutes with one but they have their issues, I don't care how meticulously you are with them.

I just bow hunt now and enjoy it a lot more.

Could be bad powder

I have seen it several times at the range

This ml is all over the place

The. Shoot it through my chrono and the speeds are everywhere
Bad powder

But I suspect mounts and or scope

Burris signature zee rings with inserts never let me down

Steel rings steel bases

Now I think about it I was using the same 777 pellets but the ones I sighted in with are from an older box and the ones I use to hunt with are from a package in the tubes... Maybe they are the same but different?

I shoot the 45 cal. Hornady SST's and 150 grains of the triple 7 pellets along with several people I know. All in Knight Rifles but all with great success. 9 out of 10 don't get out of sight if they don't immediately go down. Massive holes, normally an exit and plenty of blood. Never considered deviations in the powder, but definitely something to consider.
