It’s a “safety school”

Sounds like Saban relented to Tagliabue's request, and the only reason to do so is that it doesn't align with what the Dems are wanting to accomplish.

However, a footnote included in the letter that was reported Tuesday by CNN reads, "Coach Saban is not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster in the Senate. He believes this will destroy the checks and balances we must have in this Democracy. The others signing this letter take no position on this aspect of Senate policies."

In his statement to AL.com, Tagliabue confirmed the footnote appeared in the version of the letter sent last week to Manchin as well as senators Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar and Tim Kaine. But Tagliabue said he and Saban spoke Friday to consider making the letter public, and Saban agreed to keep the footnote out of the publicly-distributed letter as well as a Monday press release about it.

Saban declined to comment Wednesday evening about Tagliabue's statement, but Manchin said Tuesday at the Capitol that Tagliabue was responsible for the removal of the footnote in the public version of the letter.

"Nick Saban at the bottom of his letter -- which they didn't put, Paul Tagliabue didn't put what Nick Saban wrote at the bottom, his footnote, he supports the filibuster," Manchin told reporters. "Do not get rid of the filibuster. Now why did he automatically leave that out?"

But Manchin reiterated that Saban supports the voting rights bill, which is considered a key legislative priority for Joe Biden.

"Nick Saban's letter was straight on. They all [the co-signers] want the right to vote, right? We all want the right to vote," Manchin said Tuesday. "I think everyone -- we should all support the right to vote. But not breaking the rules."

The comical thing to me is his arrogance to think that anyone actually cares about his stance.

Great coach, also stinking Demonrat. More people " voted" in this election than ever before, what more do these idiots want. I put him in the category with lebrom now, shut up and coach. Stay on the 50.

Man, this dig at Bama (that I intended as good natured opposing fan ribbing and that I even walked back) really went off the rails. I should have instead posted it in the "Arrogance Discussion" forum.

I have utmost respect for Coach Saban. He's the GOAT. Although I may not agree with his political leanings, he has every right to state them and did nothing wrong here. Letters like this are very, very common.

Name calling doesn't help. Both sides do it. No one can hear anything over the blabber of both sides. And both sides are the problem with this country.

I wouldn't trust him with anything. He obviously is more interested in press than character. Douuuuuuche.

He's taking quite a bit of heat from the worshipers.

Past quotes in a story from AL.com:

"Sports has always created a platform for social change," Saban said during his speech. "For each of us involved in sports, I think we have a responsibility and obligation to do that in a responsible way and use our platform in a positive way to try to create social change in positive ways."

A week later, Saban said he would never endorse a political candidate, "or get involved in politics in any way, shape or form. I don't think that's my place."

Could this be what pushes him into retirement?

BTW, no comments from certain posters is deafening :D !

It is deafening for sure.

This was a stupid OP as I look at myself in the mirror. To be clear, any of the SEC schools are probably competitive to get into and their grads have high value degrees. My employer recruits UTK, Ole Miss, and Alabama grads very hard.

I could not care less what his politics are. My beef is making a letter to "a friend" public in the first place. That's a first class trash move.

Please post a link that says Saban leaked this letter. And he didn't send a letter to a "friend." He signed onto a letter, along with others, drafted by Paul Tagliabue that was sent to Senator Manchin. The only public comment about this letter that I'm aware of is that Saban wanted the footnote about retaining the filibuster rule, but Tagliabue didn't include. I forget whether it was Saban or Manchin who said that.

Wow. Something leaked out of DC. Color me shocked.

And why are you singling out Saban? Are Jerry West, Tagliabue and the others also "trash" and "douchebags".

I swear. If the letter instead said get the wall built and Saban leaked it you'd be hailing Saban as a great American and would be jumping on the Bama fan bandwagon.

The original post is in another forum on this site. Find it and read it. I didn't say he was the sole douchebag, but the article mentions that douchebag and Manchin are friends. When you people other than your "friend" and release it to the public, you're a douchebag. Anyone who condones that behavior is a douchebag. Period.

That's weak.

I bet you are a blast at a party.
