Jakes.... Yes or No?

i will not but i love to watch others shoot them if it makes them happy im happy, far as not shooting one to help the population a male is a male, if its a jake or a longbeard it is still taking a male out of the population

well tech yes a male is a male, however due to the short lifespan of a turkey a Jake is much better to keep around then a 4 year old. I really am not trying to turn this into a WHAT SHOULD YOU SHOOT debate just pointing out statistics.

if you wanna shoot one then by all means do so and dont feel guilty about it.

No, I personally won't shoot a jake, I have before when I was a kid, but grew out of that phase, i had 3 jakes come to my blind about 2 years ago, I started calling like a madman and got those jakes double gobbling to every little note I made, so after about 15-30 minutes passed by of them hanging around and I could hear several gobbles in the distant coming closer, to my surprise, 3 toms came right in running and beat the heck out of those jakes, well after the show, I took a 25 yard shot on the biggest tom, I missed cleanly, I knew I was in an awkward position but I knew I could have made the shot, so I started looking over my shotgun, and at the end was my fiberoptic sight tilted half way off the side of the muzzle, about an inch or 2 to the left of the bead, that one mistake made all the difference, but hey still get a nice show

Killed my first Jake last year had a 6 in beard and no spurs. Before that I had killed 3 longbeards I'm hunting for meat

Rarely, but I do on occasion! Matter of fact, the easiest bird in the woods to kill is a 2 yr old bird imo.

i disagree...IMO the easiest is a squirrel during deer season. doesnt seem to matter where i go i have 7000 around me from Sept - Jan every year lol

Yes. Don't try to, but it has happened. Don't care about beard length (never measured one) or about spurs (ain't going to wear'em like a necklace). Just trying to get something on the grill to make a sandwich.

Depends on the hunt. Saw 18 jakes in two days toward the end of season, they all got a pass because I only had 1 tag left. Season before , a turkey gobbled his head off not a jakey type gobble. Big red head tops hill im setting on. I blast him , run get my foot on him and he was just a jake , i had no idea. Very hard to tell sometimes.

? not sure. Will just have to see how the mood hits me. I have only killed 2. The first was a jake but even then that morning I ran to cut 2 longbeards off and just got set up when 4 jakes came by. I let the first 3 walk 15 yds from me. I thought that the longbeard was running the jakes off but it hit me just as the last one came in "hey what are you doing" then bam flop!
