LBL Deer Hunting 2024

I scouted Friday. Found alot of acorns and hog sign. Very very little buck sign.
I scouted a day 2 weeks ago. Found very few acorns, Kentucky side, on the ground . Using binos didnt see many in the trees either. No buck sign, scrapes or rubs yet. Very little AG, corn and beans, this year. like always, find food find deer unless the hogs find it first. no shortage of those critters.
There is always a ton of hog sign there. Sure would like to give one of those things some lead poisoning. :) Anyways looking forward to the hunt as usual. Will be on the TN side area 16. Staying in Piney Campground. Normally hunt the 2nd rifle hunt but point in for the early this time due to scheduling conflicts. Will be interesting to see the timing difference. They are always chasing on the second hunt.
Good Luck to everyone that is going.

I've got the same hunt and area. Except I'll be staying in one of the campers cabins at Paris Landing. I like the dates of the later hunt, but couldn't pass up having an early crack at them, with a rifle, in November.

Fantastic. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing some pics!

Does anyone know which area on first TN gun hunt was designated for ML only? They usually designate one area but I can't seem to find it now.

We are staying at Wrangler cabin and hunting in Area 10 KY side. I was just curious if 12 was the ML area on this weekend's tn hunt.

Too many pages of comments to read them all. This new system kinda screwed Me this year. I always got an email to apply in years past, but not this year.

Anyhow, was looking it over and a few years back they had moved the first gun hunting TN to coincide with the rifle opener, whereas it used to be on the second weekend of ML… looks like it's back to the 2nd weekend in ML, is that the case? Wonder what prompted them to move it back?

KY youth hunt this weekend. We stayed at Energy Lake. The place was full of youth hunters. I think Saturday was slow for most, didn't hear of anyone seeing or killing deer. My 6 year old had a 20 yard broadside shot Saturday evening on a solid 3 yr old buck. 8 possibly 9 points, 16-17 inches inside, 120 class. Spent half the day Sunday grid searching and couldn't find the deer. I'm confident he hit the deer, but he must have gotten more into the shoulder than I was hoping. That coupled with a small caliber rifle didn't leave much for us to work with. It was a tough one to swallow for me because we have worked really hard to get him ready (he was adamant he was gonna hunt this year despite me not wanting him to) and he has hung in there and truly earned that opportunity. We heard a couple other folks got deer back at camp Sunday morning. Small bucks and does.

Saw plenty of fresh sign while searching for his deer, scrapes/rubs/etc. Acorns weren't everywhere, but a noticed a fair amount. Lots of hog sign. The hogs are going to ruin that place if they don't dedicate more resources to remove them soon.

I'm back for the 2nd ky quota hunt Nov 15-17.

Sorry you could not find buck. Had the same thing happen for my sons first deer.

To me, it makes no sense not to allow hunters to shoot any hogs they see. We kill them for free!

It feels odd to post this, but since ticks have become a year round event in TN, I gave my hunting clothes a good soaking in permethrin yesterday. I also got my deer hunting stuff gathered up and ready to go. All I'll need to do is pack a cooler and some cloths and I'll be ready to hit the road Thursday, after lunch.

People are talking about the lack of acorns, but them things are raining down on this metal roof, right now. I'm glad I've got ear plugs for tonight.
