I wish one of you so called "traditionalist" were close enough to me to let me tag along so I could learn a little about turkey hunting.

the one and only "ImThere"

You prolly wouldn't like it....it's not about whether you win or lose, but how you play the game!!

What have I ever posted that would make you think that?

the one and only "ImThere"

Nothing sir, if I offended you I apologize!! My point was simply that unless you grew up hunting this way, you prolly wouldn't like it.. Lots of today's turkey hunters would quit if all they ever got to do was play the game. I enjoy losing to a wise old gobbler because we get to play again another day. Sometimes all week or maybe all season. Once you learn how to read birds you will learn their weaknesses. Then it becomes a chess match. Most of the time they are one step ahead.
How many FB posts do you see about someone getting their tail kicked by a stubborn old gobbler. I don't see many....at the same time I don't see many traditionalists posting kill pics either....once again, sorry if I offended you in any way.

Re: More idiots.

it's kind of like fly fishing, making it more difficult so it's more rewarding... and if you are some certain people, it includes looking down on others who don't do it your way.

yea figured since I have used a hen decoy before so, I wouldn't qualify as a traditionalist hunter. [emoji16]

Lol still a month left. Hold yals ground many people that aren't commenting agree with what you're saying. There is still of a lot of "traditional" hunters out there just don't hear from them much. I know several and luckily that's how I grew up hunting as well.

Re: More idiots.

Oh and traditional turkey hunting may be the best way to do it in my opinion, but is no reason to knock someone for using a decoy or a blind or a tail fan. It's about outdoing the gobblers, not outdoing your fellow hunters

Re: More idiots.

Did I read where ambushing a turkey was ruining the sport?
My hats off to you guys that have hunted turkeys for very long and NEVER ambushed a turkey, I'll admit to ambushing a few turkeys in my early turkey hunting years.

What about a bird that pitches down takes off the other way and you circle around to get in front of him, he easies through, you call, he gobbles and meanders your way... boom you kill him. Did you call him or just get between him and where he wanted to go, did you ambush him? Heck I ambushed a couple of deer this past winter and didn't feel too bad about it.

Do you have to call all turkeys in to the gun or bow or slingshot to be a traditionalist?
I don't consider myself a traditionalist, I have a shotgun with a turkey choke and an Eotech, I'm too lazy to carry a decoy or blind, I don't like crawling to turkeys so ambushing is pretty much out but I do like to have a nice cushion for my :moon:

Just 14 more days....

Re: More idiots.

I just think we are making it TOO easy to hunt...not just turkeys either. Not wrong just too easy. Each year there are several new ways technology has made killing game easier, and this I truly believe has lessened the quality of the hunt and the quality of the hunter. Not just his quality as a hunter. Technology is great, and has improved society greatly in many ways, but if one forgets himself and his purpose because of the technology then I think we've lost something.

I have taken a lot of youth and their dads turkey hunting over the years. I have never used a decoy, but have always told them their usefulness and that they are legal how to use etc. Many of these guys have gone out the next year and bought decoys and started killing turkeys. They have no idea about turkeys, their habits how/when to call, woodsmanship, land management and on and on. They are not wrong by any stretch, but they are missing out because they want to take the easy way out. I think that rubs some "traditoonalists" the wrong way...to the point they overstep their bounds at times.

One question I do have, and maybe some of you know. Has the huntere success rate gone up with the advent of these decoys? I haven't noticed an increase in overall success across the states. It seems that the rate has remained flat, even though it sure seems like it would drastically go up.

Re: More idiots.

I think that some of you guys are forgetting one very important factor. Some hunters are just not smart enough to learn all it takes to be a traditionalist. They need decoys and 50 yards loads. Don't take me wrong, I am not knocking these guys, cause I am one of these guys.

Not all hunters are intelligent. Y'all need to think before you type. You're hurting feeling of us less intelligent hunters. Stop making us feel bad. We are just trying to have some fun in the woods too.
