Every day I'm becoming more and more fed up with the new generation of turkey wannabes. With each season that passes more rubes jump on board and their only desire is to kill as easy as possible.

All the fanboys who support the if it's legal it's okay with me philosophy will have themselves to blame when this sport is completely trashed by them and the others who seemingly have no respect or desire to hunt turkeys. All they want to do is kill, and never actually learn to hunt.

I've spoken out big time about decoys, blinds, fanning, long range bs, ambushing, hen killing, etc etc, because all of those things are destroying what was a great form of hunting. That's been ruined by the bone collector dipsticks joining our ranks. I just wish they'd go away.....

And scopes or any type of artificial call? Natural camo and just mud on the face? I only use natural mouth sounds and and a sharpened stick. Everybody got an opinion! it's all relative. But yes money does take it way too far!

Re: More idiots.

Just a PSA

Ruger is in the general forum warning folks about attacking posts. He shut the sports forum down and said he would shut others down or delete accounts. Personally I hope he chooses the later. No reason to punish everyone.

Many on his thread where he advised the sports forum was shut down complained about this thread.

I didn't say anything yesterday, but I wanted to. I said it last year and I think most on here agree with me, so I'll say it again.

Just because it ain't your way doesn't mean its wrong. Just because you don't believe in it doesn't make it wrong. Not everyone wants to do it the"Barta way".... Some people just want to be in the woods and shoot turkeys and that is ok.

If you don't like what someone does, just move along to another thread. If you're so great at turkey hunting, learn to be a mentor, while understanding not all your advise will be used and people may still hunt by means you don't like. Either that or say nothing. If you want to complain about regs, tackle, etc. write the TWRA. If they don't listen or disagree, accept it or keep writing. JMO

This is a discussion. If we don't have discussions forums wouldn't exist. I have seen no one attacked personally here. That crap in the Sports Forum has been out of hand forever. 3 or 4 trolls in there ruin it for everyone. That's not happening here IMO.

I'm just telling you what others are saying. Every year posts like this show up from the same 3-4 guys.

I know its just his opinion and I think he is entitled to it, but do you have to do it in a belittling way??

In short he is saying anyone that uses blinds, decoys, shoots a hen, or ambushes a turkey is ruining the sport and shouldn't hunt turkeys (yeah there's some other stuff in there that probably is not good for the sport, but I don't know that its ruining it) and then basically calls them Michael Waddell wannabes, which is his way of saying no talent A$% clowns..... Its not personally aimed, its a blanket statement to get everyone that doesn't do it the way he does it and he is not the only one that posts like that, there are a few on here.

Again, I can care less. Like I said in the OP "PSA" do what you want and post what you want. I just don't like seeing threads, forums and accounts deleted.

I stand by my blanket statement that anyone that shoots at a turkey at 66 yards with lead is an idiot.

That is a fair statement. It has science behind it to back it up. Lead doesn't carry the kinetic energy to kill effectively at that range. Can it be done; sure, but its not ethical IMO.

I agree. Very unethical. I hate the thought of a turkey suffering or getting eaten by coyotes because someone took an unethical shot. I lost a bird years ago and that is a feeling I never want to have again. This was back before I perfected my setup. As a matter of fact, that is probably what got me interested in testing chokes and shells, etc.

I completely agree, and I'll add that shots that distance shouldn't be taken with any load even hevi shot

60 yards would be my max distance, as well as an error in judgement, with even htl loads. With lead I would like them to be within 50. That's with a three or three and a half inch magnum 12 gauge.

Now the winchester longbeards are great lead shells, but I wouldn't want to shoot one over 50 with them.

Drury is sending the wrong message here.

Just another reason why I do not like the Drury brothers. They make deer and turkey hunting a game, and it is really having a negative effect on all hunting.

They are even trying to promote turkey hunting as "trophy hunting"

I guess the Drury brothers will sell their souls for the right money. "66 yards. That's where I dropped him." With lead. I wonder how many turkeys will get fed to the coyotes this year because of this stupid ad. It is sickening what turkey hunting is becoming.

Re: More idiots.

There is a video I came across the other day of 2 guys in MS hunting. They were set up on a field edge and out comes 3 or 4 birds. You can hear the one guy talking and saying they need to shoot. Well, the birds hang up FAR away from the decoys and 2 of the birds finally stop. The guy counts down and they both shoot. One guy drops his and the other guy says he "misses" his. (You can go back and slow down the video and actually see the guy hit it, but didnt kill it.) Well the camera cuts back to the guy who missed and he is complaining that he didnt have his LB shells in and the other guy did. Then the one guy goes on a rant how the shells killed him way out there and he couldnt believe that he actually killed the bird. But here is the fun part, the guy then walks out to this dead bird. The bird is all the way across the field. The guy steps it off and it ends up being like 75 paces from him. That video just made me shake my head.. It was way to far for a shot on a turkey.

Really??

You're so thin skinned that a generalized opinion hurts your feelings to the point of running to Ruger to get people banned. Pretty pitiful IMO

If you "could care less" why be the spokesperson for the crowd who can't handle a differing opinion?

Re: More idiots.

I've said it on here for years. the guys that judge their success on the amount of turkeys they kill or judge how good other hunters are buy the amount if turkeys they kill will always be the problem. it is the world we live in these days though where you have to cater to what sells. in todays world it is build on success is the driving factor for everything but todays world wants it to be given to them or find the easiest way possible to be successful so they can limit the amount of failure. Its that way in business and in sports already so why not hunting. Its slowly draining all that is great about turkey hunting away and what it actually teaches you as far as life lessons all for the almighty kill count.

shooting a turkey that far is plain stupid IMO, if you want to kill one that bad just buy a farm raised one and go shoot it in the yard. Turkey hunting should be measured in success but more importantly the work and skill it took to get there, that is where you learn the lessons of life and you really weed out the true hunters from the killers (my opinion)

I don't blame the ammo companies though, they are just advertising to what sells same as Hardees uses boobs to sell hamburgers. I blame our society for allowing stuff like that to be the new way of life.

Re: More idiots.

I don't shoot at a turkey over 30 yards away. My method is: I roost one in the evening, get up early the next morning, sneak in real close without using a light (about 30 yds) and wait until LEGAL shooting time and zap! I kill him before he flies down. I usually "Tag Out" the first four days of the season! :poke:

Wow 4 days later.... and even with 4 days clearly you didn't read all the posts. I have real thick skin, and I am not a spokes person for anyone.

I believe 100% in the 1st amendment as it is written and do not believe in consequences for one's speech, because then it is not truly free speech. However, I can assure you that that sentiment is not shared by those that run this forum or any forum/social media site for that matter. They deleted an entire forum because people were jawing back and forth about football teams and started belittling each other and getting chippy...

All I was saying is some people were complaining (Not me) about this thread and others on this sub forum in another thread that was explaining that the sports forum was gone and Ruger said, if it continues he will delete other forums and/or accounts. Personally I think if it comes to deleting anything it should be accounts not forums, but I don't make that decision and I kinda like to post and read posts in this forum throughout the year and especially leading up to and through turkey season, so I was just trying to make sure that this forum didn't get shut down and WARN you and your crowd of traditional turkey hunters, that accounts may be deleted, because OTHERS were complaining.

If you had read all the posts maybe you'd have realized that.
