Muzzleloader Distance

The closer the better. This one at about 40 yards and fell dead after maybe a 15 yard run. Ticking patched .570 ball ahead of three drams Goex 2fg.

I killed a decent IL 10 pt in a corn field late one evening at 225+. I thought he was a little closer than he was. But, he went down in his tracks. I was hunting from the ground, and had tripod shooting sticks in case I had to reach out.

I am not a good rifle shot, so there was some luck involved. 50 cal. Savage ML II with a 300 gr Barnes Original. Those are BAD bullets.

80 yards is my farthest shot so far, and the result was great. But I could shoot accurately further if I take my time.
2 White Hots pellets propelling a Hornady SST (can't remember the grain) out of a borrowed .50cal CVA Optima.

I plan on shooting 200 on Thursday. It was too windy Saturday for that distance. TC Omega with 84 grains by weight and 250 grain shockwaves.

100 yards has been my limit,Ive never practiced farther than this!I shoot a CVA Optima with 2 50 grain white Hot pellets with a 250 grain Aerolite Powerbelt bullet!!

80yds……..
That's the longest shot I've taken at a deer with it.
Sighted in 23 years ago at 100
Every shot since as been 80 or less
Most 25 or less. So far every shot has hit within an inch of aim point.
Check it at 50yds unloading it for season each year.

300 yards

Remington Ultimate 700 ML
Custom smokeless .45 cal
Brux barrel, Mz Rex break
N/F. SHV 5-20 x 56mm
300gr Parker Match Hunter bullets
Benchmark powder

Same here. Remmy UML shooting 4 Triple 7 pellets (200 grains) and Remmy Accutips. I know many people are concerned with reduced Remington rifle quality over the last few years, but this rifle isn't one of them. Extremely accurate right out of the box and build quality is superb.

Before i converted mine i couldn't stand the recoil. However I would agree i had very acceptable groups right out of the box.
Have you thought about converting it to smokeless?

Have not at this point in time. I kinda like the smell of the smoke LOL. But yeah, 200 grains will make many men cry. It's a heavy gun though, probably 10 plus pounds with scope. My 870 supermag turkey gun shooting 3-1/2 inch 2 oz. will make a man out of you more than the UML. Even still, I can empty the mag on my turkey gun one after another wearing only a t-shirt so not really that big of a deal. Being 250 pounds definitely helps. I probably couldn't have done it back in my high school days when I weighed 190.

Have killed to 135, not sure how much further I'd want to shoot. 95 gn of 209 with a Barnes on top. In reality, the vast majority of my muzzleloader deer have come inside of now range.
