I disagree. He is one of two coaches I was hoping they wouldn't hire. Unless they lose a bunch of their current players I expect to see Bama back in the playoffs next season.

Bama to a very large degree recruits itself. I don't see much of a drop off for Bama in the coming years.

Really? He took a struggling 4-8 Washington team and in 2 seasons took them to a National Championship. Guy groomed a serious contender for a Heisman too. Did Butch Jones do anything remarkably close to that as a head coach the entire time he was with the vols? Answer??? NOPE!Kalen DeBoer???did he immigrate from the Netherlands? Scandinavia? Big football hotspots those 2.

When they hired Saban Vol fans were laughing at Bama paying $4mm for a coach.
When Saban started winning Vol fans said he will leave in three years.
One fact is that any new coach will be a drop off. How much will be determined.
Also, the players entering the portal as a sign of "exodus". I would advise them to do the same until they see the direction. By declaring to enter the portal they can evaluate their options. They can also stay if they choose.

I suspect DeBoer was the Athletics Director's first choice and he was on the AD's list before Saban ever mentioned retirement but we may never know. Smart and Sarkesian were mentioned by some but I doubt there was ever any expectations there. Kiffin says he has matured and it may be true but I think the administration at Alabama are still holding his shenanigans that took place while offensive coordinator there against him.
Big questions regarding staff.
DeBoar's first recruiting task will be going after Alabama players that have recently entered the portal.

Looks like he only has two years of Power 5 experience, but he knocked it out of the park in those two years.
Cons. Zero SEC experience, zero experience at all in the south doing anything football wise. Not a proven recruiter.
Sorta did the same thing Heupel did his first couple years at UT. He took a shot at a failed 3* Indiana trasfer QB and a few trasfer WRs and hit a Homrun. Kinda like what Heupel did with hooker & Bru and others.
