Roost 1,
Going to try your suggestion for the ML SG utilizing duplex loads. Your thought to mix 5s & 6s was valid, so giving it a try tomorrow. I have bulk 5s, took a Remington Nitro Turkey with 6s and opened it up. Take a look at the quality control, the pellets are all over the map. Some are oval, some resemble little snowmen, pears and the diameters vary widely, no wonder patterns change. Not trying to be critical here, a few mismatched sure, but look at the difference in just one load. I'm aware these loads are not the "top of the line or $$$" for turkey, I would have thought a bit more consistency.

anyone ever open a hevi shell? looks a lot like this but sizes vary even more but they still shoot great so tells me its has more to do with the shell than just varying shot sizes and snowman pellets. and yes rem shells suck!!!

Frank, were pretty close together, if you won't some good lead shot I'll hook you up. I have copper plated 4,5, and 6. As well as nickel plated 5.5, and 6

You sure that's lead shot??? Take a pair of vice grips and squeeze one and compare it to lead. I believe that's Hevi shot there.

That has got to be hevi

x2. I've never seen lead look like that, but it looks just like all the "Hevi" brand shells I've taken apart. And not unlike the Nitro Co. shell I took apart.

dang, that looks terrible. Last time I cut open a win supreme load they looked to be uniform copper plated lead shot with some kind of much smaller plastic filler pellets in between. they shoot good too

Rockhound,
Right after I posted the image of 6s, took another Nitro Turkey apart with 4s. Now these were copper plated, uniform, lead :) Did the squeeze test on both, The 4s are in fact lead, the 6s however are not "but" magnetic and brittle. Now I had purchased a box of Remington Nitro Turkey loads in 4s & 5s a couple of years ago. Nothing was stated on the box "Hevi" metal. I have a couple of boxes of Hevi Shot as well. May cut one apart to see if there is lead in them. :o

:) Thanks for the offer Rockhound. I'll be in touch soon. If the weather holds off today I'm sending a few rounds of duplex mix. Lets see which works out the best pattern. Going to base line with 5s only then send a couple 5>6s and even going to try 5>4s. Will base line all at my typical 30 yard test. Will let you know. :o

Yep that's Hevi shot. The old Hevi use to come in green hulls so I bet someone switched a couple out at the store before you bought them.

Save thehevi if you don't want to shoot it

When duplexing shotshells, you get better patterns using the smaller shot first and then adding the bigger shot. Dunno if it will help much with the ML though

Wad design has a ton to do with accuracy and pattern as well IMO.
Agree Setterman, would like to have Roost 1 share his thoughts as well. He has a lot of experience with a ML SG, or anyone else that uses a ML SG. Went out yesterday with two thoughts in mind. I set an AimPoint 9000sc on my TK2000 (took it off my ML pistol) to give it a feel and 0 in. Only needed a couple of clicks down and called it good. I set targets at 30 and 40 yards. 100 grains of T7 were used with all shot. Fired: 2 oz #5 lead, 2 oz 5&4 mixed lead, 2 oz 5&6 mixed lead, 1-3/4 oz #6 Hevi shot. All were with 2-1/2 Knight wads and caps, choke is as supplied with the TK, believe the tightest they produce. Any smaller in dia you would have to remove the choke to install the wad. Made no difference at 30 with any shot type . Devastating anywhere from 24 low to 39 high in head/neck/spine area. At 40 the pattern falls off rapidly 7 low to 14 in same area. All good kill shots for sure. Could not choose the best over all shot, didnt make a lot of difference in the pattern. Now heres my thought, would like your input guys. Speaking to an old time reloader, he suggest I try (and will supply a few) a steel shot wads 2 (he tells me they are not slit) but to cut down only a 1/3 >1/2 of the way NOT all the way like most. At 10 > 20 youre basically shooting a slug, wont start to spread until that range. He thought the 5s in lead are still OK but may want to swap to 6s because of the wad length or drop down to 1-3/4 oz. virtually all the recover wads were at 30 > 35 yards. May be some sound advice here in order to hold a tight pattern out at 40 possible 45/50 yards. Your thoughts guys, Im willing to give it a shot. Would like some more range time with the TK anyway so wont be a waste. Any suggestions anyone? :)
