Otey mills refuge

I got drawn for the December hunt, as well. Didn't realize we only got 1 day to scout and it's on a Monday prior to hunting that Friday/Saturday.
I got drawn for the December hunt as well. The 2024-2025 Tennessee hunting guide says the scout day is the Saturday prior to your hunt. How do you get clarification on when the scout day is?

So, at least, 3 of the 8 hunts drawn were for TNDeer members? Man! That's great!! Congrats!!!
I'm not familiar at all with Otey Mills. I had just read these comments before applying. I had typically only applied for President's Island, but never drawn. Then, the first year I apply for something else, I get drawn. I'm wondering if the sacrifice of my points was worth it, or should I have just stayed with President's Island only. Any thoughts? Also, any direction on contacting someone knowledgeable of the Otey Mills area will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why is it a gun hunt if that many acres and mountainous terrain? Assume it's maybe a requirement from the new owners. If a gun hunt, I might sacrifice my PI points for it.

The sign posted at the gate says scout days are monday before the hunt🤷
Not sure. The document they sent showing the scouting date shows it's the 30th of November. I've also not been able to confirm it consists of 3000 acres and have seen multiple places saying it's 800???

Yea, I'm thinking I messed up and should've stuck with PI only. My brother got drawn several years ago for PI. He didn't get on one, but saw some very nice bucks just out of range. Not to mention it's flat =)

It's on onX under State of TN with a subheading of RMEF. Interesting.

I think it includes the ground to the right as well, (or that was the original plan) where the waterdrop is on the map is where the old otey mill set. Ive not talked to any of them lately so i dont know if theve excluded the old lease or not. I will try find out tomorrow

Going to be interesting to see west tn people hunting that place for sure.
I know you're right. My Advice would be Better study a topo and terrain features. Certainly for folks who don't hunt this kind of terrain regularly. It's mostly the only type of terrain I have to hunt. And get some hiking type boots or lace up's. I've done it in rubber boots and on occasion still do. I find much more comfortable in lace up's. Especially when walking or standing on angles Of 45 degrees for long periods. Maybe that's just me though. Somebody said it was 3000 acres on here. Of so that's plenty of room for a few hunters.
