Prime rib question

I was on a quest for a couple fillets yesterday and never did find any.
Went to a grocery store and they said they got a meat truck in that morning and "this" is all that was on it.
Wasn't much either.

Anyway, I noticed they had prime rib, already sliced and in packages.
Had a good looking outside edge and I asked the butcher if it was already cooked and he said no.

Peaked my interest so I bought two, seasoned them up like I do all my steaks and grilled them.
Did 4 minutes per side for the wifes and 2 per side on mine.
They were outstanding!
Just found it odd I have never seen them sold like that before.
Is this different or have I just never seen it?
 
Once the prime rib is sliced you have a ribeye steak. Once sliced its no longer a prime rib
 
Dunno if it's the way they trim it or what but these had the big fat content that you see in a prime rib.
I knew a sliced prime rib is just a ribeye but these just seemed different.
They were freaking delicious that's for sure.
 
not the exact same but similar. basically a rib eye is trimmed down from the 6-12 ribs, unless you get a "cowboy bone in cut. some butchers even trim the cap or spinalis and sell it as a center cut ribeye. a prime rib is slightly trimmed. the texture difference in a prime rib roast and a steak is how they are cooked.

a prime rib roast in most restaurants start off as a slice like you bought except its poached in a water bath.
