Ok...so its supposed to rain this weekend which means I wont be taking the boat out probably...but I think i remember someone saying that rain is good for turkey...so, with that said...Its 2 days til Saturday and Sunday. Should I go hunt the land / sit on it that I have permission for this weekend? I cant decide. Maybe i need some motivation!!

Take your blind, rain suit and go sit. What's the worst that can happen? That's my plan anyways

So you would use a blind? Or just post up somewhere kind of hidden? If I use a blind, i would probably try to sit it out tomorrow afternoon or something right after work.

I love hunting in the rain. Once the weather breaks, the hunting can be outstanding. Some of my best hunts have been between rain showers. The best is when the rain lets up and there is thunder in the distance. Every gobbler on the property will be gobbling.

Screw the gound blind (waaay too boring). I throw on my rain suit, grab a mouthcall and a waterproof slate call and striker and take off.

You can count on the birds being in fields. Rain limits their vision and hearing so they seek open ground. Also, the rain stuns insects and makes it easier for them to catch. However, if it is a pretty serious storm, they will hunker down under some type of cover until the storm passes. But as soon as the storm passes, they will hit the fields to dry off.

If I know turkeys go to a certain field when it rains, I'll setup close enough to the edge of the field to get a shot but far enough back that I can slip out of there without the turkeys seeing me. This is important b/c sometimes during rain showers the turkeys won't move much. If this appears to be the situation, I'll use the rain to my advantage and try to sneak within gun range.

Rain is a turkey hunter's best friend. It keeps a lot of public land hunters at home, makes the turkeys more predictable, and puts the odds more in your favor by limiting their vision and hearing.

i just don't get excited enough over a turkey to put up with the discomforts of hunting in the rain. deer is another thing completely. if it's not a complete washout or bow season, i'll be out there.

Yep I use the blind when its coming down try to set up close to where I have seen them in the field out in the open if necessary and in between showers run from field to field in search of just one way to do it

sounds like ill be sitting out there then bright and early saturday morning. I dont have any rain gear, but have my camo for deer hunting ...i have a blind..and a shotgun...ill just go to pass time and see what I can learn. Might as well

Swing by Walmart and get a cheap poncho. If it rains hard enough and long enough then it's likely your blind will eventually leak and hunting when you're wet really sucks.

Killing birds in the rain happens, but for me I save my legs and time for nicer weather. I get to hunt enough that I can punt on rainy days.

you guys say get a poncho...im guessing I would def need some sort of camo poncho? I am undecided on using the blind or not. Should I get a hen decoy? Ive got a lot I need to learn today before I attempt going out in the morning.

ok...so here is the little section I have permission to hunt. The thin yellow line is the bottom of a hill and the line is a small creek. The red lines is where I have been told turkey have been seen before. The green spray is where I was told by someone he thinks the turkeys may be roosting up in some pine / cedar type trees.

Now I am going to glance at this land again during lunch just to have an idea where I want to post up in the morning....any comments would be great:

I would set up where the birds have been seen in the corner coming from their possible roosting area.

Thanks for the input. I went and walked around in that area, and did not see the first sign of bird by just walking. I know in the woods a few weeks back I had seen some signs of scratching on the ground. With it being a rainy day tomorrow I think I would have more luck watching field. (from what I have read though).

After work today, should I go buy a crow or owl call and try to find if they are roosting in that area or not? Just trying to get my ducks in a row before the morning.

I wouldn't be out there messing around and possibly bump them before tomorrow.... if you know birds are in there, you can be they will visit the field at some point, especially if it's raining... Lonely gobblers may check it from time to time for hens...

Ok....then what would be the best possible way to get in and find a close spot to roost area that is within my hunting bounds? Do I go out super super early tomorrow and try to find them etc. Also I forgot to add....a portion of the area has cows so roaming in an area in the dark with a bull does not sound fun to me. lol

Ok. Did I mess up my chance? I came to see if I can listen or see anything. Got here got sit down at the edge of a field back from the woods and no more than 5 mins later a hen goes running through the tall grass field and then flys up to the woods into the trees. Did she see me? That does clarify that yes there are turkey over here this year. What now? I bought a wood box call. A pack that has a glass slate call. It has a crow and hoot owl and diaphragm call. She's the only one I saw out here so far. I also bought a jake and hen decoy

I just spotted another up the field close to the owners house behind me. The hen there is alone too
