Rut report

When you turn off Mack Hatcher onto Cool Springs Blvd, when you come to that first light (75 yards or so), there is a very small field to the left. I surprisingly see deer there quite often. Most of the time they are bedded there, just 40 yards off the road in the evenings.

The photos look like the bucks were arguing over the persimmons more than trying to gain dominance. As others mentioned, fewer rubs than normal. I just got done hunting my friends place off Westpoint rd/buck ditch.... he's got crazy scrapes around his plots. I thought using west tn was slower than middle tn
 
Talked with my FIL yesterday afternoon. We are on a couple leases up on the plateau in Jackson County. He said there are more scrapes and rubs than he has ever seen. He had a dozer guy clearing a road through one of the properties and the dozer guy said he saw a monster buck with 9 does within 50 yards of a stand we have there. Said he had 12" g2's and g3's. Don't know this dozer guy from Adam, but am excited to get back there, nonetheless. It was on fire last year there with a good crop of up and coming bucks.
 
Have avoided pushing further up the mtn at my spot knowing that's where the bucks hang since I had does in my acorns. Bucks have started to descend to the ridge just this week on a semi-regular basis. Have a few vids of chasing, etc. Next week is gonna be lit for my vacation!

Yep they run up and down Spencer creek. But that's the first time I saw one up by aspen grove park.

And, not trying to hijack the thread, but it is a good time to remind non-hunting spouses and children that aren't aware of the increased deer movement around the rut that they need to be extra careful wherever they are driving and be on the watch for deer crossing the road for the next few weeks. That includes in some very urban areas in Nashville, etc. It might save someone you love from a terrible crash.

Why doesn't TWRA just move the deer crossings to safer areas?!

Wow! How many 3.5+ bucks do you have? How many mature ones if you don't mind sharing? I'd like to compare to ours for roughly the same amount of acreage.

Over the last 15 years, the average number of unique bucks picked up on cam from Sept 1 to Dec. 31 is 36. However, we never have all of them using the property during a given month. The averages for unique bucks photographed by month are: September: 12, October: 21, November: 25, December: 15.

The percentage of bucks by age has averaged: Yearlings: 52%, 2 1/2 year-olds: 27%, 3 1/2: 13%, 4 1/2+ 8%.

Very nice - thanks! I've never run our numbers, but would like to. I'm curious to see what it shows.

Believe it or not, I am a numbers guy and am overly OCD about cameras and pictures. I just haven't done the statistics. Up until now, I have instantly deleted all pics of deer that aren't "racked bucks", so typically spikes all the way up to 4 pts are deleted. If a buck has a decent rack for a 4pt (wide and tall with no brows), I will save it. I guess my thought process in all of this is, if I won't be able to identify him the following year, no need in saving the picture (and they are obviously not being targeted that year). A big wide 4 pt with no brows would likely be identifiable the following year.

Your statistics you posted earlier prompted me to start running my statistics starting in November. And that means saving every individual buck picture.

Lord, look what you've done - now you have me committing even more time into my hunting activities!
