Sounds like a great hunt and some good catfish to go with it. Next time maybe kill him at 20 yards and don't let them get so close. Just a thought.
20 yards he was definitely on private property I couldn't hunt. I had to let him get to my side before I could shoot.

This is the most impressive part of this whole story, IMO. The vast majority of people would have just mashed him at 35, picked him up, and walked back to camp. Letting him get so close he's missable, just to do it the right way, is really, really commendable.

Well said, SS. It has been fun watching Jonathan's growth over the years. For someone that is largely self taught, he has come a really long way from a pretty urban background. It is commendable for him to do it the right way!

thanks, it just seems the right thing to do, can't shoot one that is clearly behind a well marked boundary. Now if he's within a yard or so, I might couldn't tell for sure, cause there's no fence. But 20 yards out was a no go.

I'm going back in the morning if the lake isn't still rolling tidal waves. And yea I'm even bringing a turkey fan...just in case. Might have to prop it against a tree in one of the openings to the field. Hopefully won't have to...but first I gotta see if that bird is still hanging around there. I think he should be

sounds like a great trip.... btw the bird will still be there... but don't expect him to come charging in to a call... gonna take some work to get a 2nd shot

No sign of any birds at all this morning. Headed out at 9 to check limb lines. 3 flathead 2 channel cats. Don't know where the birds went
