Good idea to clean mounts and protect them, I use protex, but I was lazy and waited to long. Moths will EAT them, I found out the hard way. I haven't mounted any animal in a while, I like skulls better and I ran out of room for mounts. I have quite a bit of waterfowl, moths will eat waterfowl also.

I guess they do eat them hanging on the deck like that. Definitely a nice touch sir! lol

I only mount deer now for the kids. First racked bucks. Then their biggest. They each will get up to 3 lol
The protex has an intense pine smell. For sure do that outside and leave them outside for a few hours.

I thought you only killed big bucks?!?! 😜🤣 only kidding…some nice bucks there for sure.
I have for sure killed my share of small bucks, and as I get older I may kill more. There is another pile of antlers and skulls of smaller bucks. I miss the days when I hunted and was happy to just kill "a deer" when I could get lucky and see what was legal to kill.

I try to kill what makes me happy and usually that means a larger antlered deer when it comes to a buck and for sure a momma doe when shooting does.

Velvalok has a product called Trophy Clean. It cleans and protects against bugs and "stuff". They're pretty proud of their products ($$$) but it works.
I have 2 bottles, but it says good for 6 months, the protex protects for a good bit longer. Just not as long as I let them go this time.

Right there with you. Today it's more about hanging around the campfire with friends and family. Killing one is just a bonus.
