TSS 20 ga choke tube ?

My idea of turkey hunting is digging thru the frozen ones at Kroger….BUT since I have this 20ga Franchi, I'm wanting to try to shoot one this spring.

My question is what choke tube works best for with TSS? Modified, full….I've been out of the turkey hunting thing for a while. For those that shoot a 20 gauge, what brand choke works for your gun? Standard chokes or the high speed turkey chokes? Thanks
 
Search Indian creek choke tubes here. A lot of good info. I have a Stoeger 20 gauge I got 2 years ago and I use the factory choke with mine. If I ever upgrade, I'll probably go with IC

Depends on your intentions. Indian creek is wildly considered one of the best options for 20 gauges. Not saying others are not good but those seem to shoot well in any gun

Having said that if you plan to shoot 30 and under 99% of the time then just try the factory full first or a Carlson's 575. Some guns that's even a good 40yd combo

I'll trade you several frozen turkeys for that Franchi to save you time, money and headache
 
I'm a Carlsons fan. I bought both the Longbeard ported (.568) and the TSS non-ported (.555) to try this this year. Will be shooting #9 TSS.
 
Dave Owens, the guy from the Pinhoti Project, hunts with a Franchi 20 and partnered with Trulock and uses the .585" choke...he probably kills more turkeys in a season across the country than anyone else.

I had a Trulock Pinhoti .575" in a Mossy 500 20 gauge and it gave a very nice pattern as well.

I'm shooting a Trulok this season. Really it's just what I chose to try. Previously, I was toting a 12 gage with a custom choke that my buddy made for my gun specifically with several attempts at getting the most out of it. That being said out to 40 yards my 20 Retay with the trulok choke is almost as good without all the trial and error. I shoot Federal TSS #9 and got their choke made for that combo.

I remember the days of trying choke after choke, shell after shell, chasing an acceptable pattern with crappy copper plated lead shot. TSS is a whole different animal. My boys and I have several different guns, and have been around plenty of others, and honestly, I've never seen a tss shell, shot from any gun, with any choke, that wasn't hunt worthy. Now, I've seen some that were better than others, but never one that I would feel uncomfortable to hunt with. I have an over/under that I run a factory modified choke in one barrel for the "short" shots. More than once, I've surprised myself by accidentally using the "short" barrel to take the longer shots. Barrel switching sometimes gets confusing in the heat of the moment. I said all that to say you don't necessarily have to buy the most expensive chokes to have acceptable killing patterns with tss. I have some, and that's what I primarily hunt with, but honestly, the only thing they kill better than factory chokes is paper.

he doesnt shoot a franchi, he shoots a benelli ultralight. Having said that its the same barrel in it.

as mentioned before on here, unlike 12 gauges the bore diameter on 95% of all 20 gauges is the same which helps in choke selections.
 
I've played with a few different chokes in my mossberg. I've found the sweet spot for the pattern I like to see with TSS is in that .565 to .570 range. Not too tight at 20 yards but more than tight enough out to 40-45 yards...could probably stretch it to 50 yards. Hunted last season with a .568 Carlson's longbeard XR. Gonna play around with a few different loads and a .570 Kick's Gobblin Thunder to see what that looks like before the season starts.

In all his good older videos(before the promotions and money😁) he use franchi probably from 20-21 and back, that ultra light would be sweet though, youve even had a gaser like me looking into those dang inertia rascals with your recent purchase😂
