Turkey contest?

No way, I only hunt for myself.

But, I will sit back and enjoy the show :D !

With that said, why would you allow birds from outside TN, and shouldn't it only be TNDeer members  ?

i don't think it should matter where the bird comes. a lot of people travel to hunt birds I think they should all count we have a lot of people in ky to. but that's just me.

Agreed personally where makes no differnce as long as you are a TNDEER member and it was legal. Like roost said doesn't matter if you kill 20 only 1 count from each person

I'm in... Points for number of turkeys harvested, type of weapon (bow or gun; bow harvest=more points; use NWTF scoring standard= weight, length of beard, length of spurs with pics posted of each.

we could also just let everyone be on their own and the biggest bird at the end of the season wins. just throwing ideas out there.

thought about that but you really limit draw IMO then, as there are a lot of guys that only kill 1 a year and it is a 2 year old. Doing it as a team you have more of a group of guys to chat with and no matter what you kill you are "in it" and doing your part.

In addition you could do the team part as a membership drive buy getting some new folks to sign up for the contest and then they actually stick around on the site.

The main thing is if you are going to commit to doing it you HAVE to log on and post, if you can't log on but once a week or you can't post pictures to TNDEER then it may be hard for you to do it.

Anyway we could make this benefit tndeer? Maybe everybody that wanted to play make a $5 donation? Just thinking outloud.

If Ruger or another admin can add a new section or thread for it and maybe a few team subthreads i think it would be a fantastic idea.

After the last 2 years drama.... my contest days are over. I will still pull for VDM.... but I will be enjoying my season without the added pressure.

yeah i felt the same way but i just figure if we did it at a smaller scale and did it on here the drama would be far less if any.

You may be right.... I will have to think on it a day or two.... pencil me & the Mrs. in for now..... I will check on a few other things as well....

Meanwhile, we need to get some rules drafted.

# of team members... maybe a poll if we can get one.... You don't want the same number of birds making final cut as team members that way there is a little leeway for someone having a tough season or other reasons being detrimental to the team score.

A good starting point would be how many members of VDM want to play and stay together?

I've done this before and the best way to select teams is as follows:

- open up to all, when sign up ends randomly select teams by putting all names into a computer and letting it draw... Number of teams and team allocations will depend on the number that sign-up. For family members- allow juveniles and husband and wifes to be on same team... All others go into random drawing; this will keep the teams fair and ensure communication.
-develop rules early and if the teams don't post the requirments to TN deer the turkey doesn't count.
- select a date to stop hunting; if hunting multiple states contest may run until mid May.
- What prize do winners receive; hat from TN Deer, etc...

We can have a team registration for a group of friends that want to play together..... and then an individual registration where they will be randomly placed on a team with other random individuals.

We can take a vote/poll as the the number of members per team....
