I have an old small traeger that gets used weekly, getting a rec tec this fall though.

Which rec tec. I'm strongly leaning towards the 700. I liked the stampede but for a fee hundred more you get a much heavier built grill and better warranty with the 700. And one guy on the owner facebook said he just bought the stampede and reccomends if you can afford the Bull then go ahead and get it. I'm pretty much between the Rec Tec bull, Grilla Grills (grilla or silverbac undecided), and still contemplate GMG DB too. My main things for Rec Tec is it seems to be the only company I don't find negative stuff. I know you will always find someone to say bad stuff about anything, but overall you don't see comments like "I got rid of my rec tec and got a ...". If I'm spending $7-800, then I might as well spend $1200 and get something that will last 10-15 years easily with care.

I'm looking at the 590, I have no need for the 700. One of my buddies has the original rectec when there was only one model, I think it's now considered the bull (700). We are a family of three, we just don't need all that space. I've grilled/smoked on a traeger junior for over five years with no issue on grill size except for a handful of times, the 590 is overkill for us but I'm looking forward to it. I haven't ordered it yet so I'm always open to a better option and I'm in the same boat, if I need to be looking at something else for a little more $ then please let me know.

If you really want to spend some money look at the Memphis pellet grills, my uncle has one and they are super nice. That being said, the controls don't appear any nicer then the rectec's.

Honestly the main reasons I'm leaning towards the 700 over the stampede is the 6 year warranty AND I've seen on Facebook a few guys who got the stampede and said they wished they just went ahead and bought the 700. Now usually I won't need all the space for meat, but the wife also likes me to grill sides, so I have to also think I may have a pan of beans, corn, and potatoes on too. I'm sure the stampede would still be plenty of space, but I also like the 40lb hopper to over night cooks. Yes a 20lb should always be more than plenty, but with a 40lb there's no question. Even in winter months I should be able to sleep all night and deal with my baby and not worry about messing with the pellets. Just some of my thoughts. Rarely do you find reviews where someone wishes they had less grill, usually they want more grill.

On a side note I also debated, for the price, getting a trailblazer AND a bullseye. Get the best of both worlds for around the same price.

Where do you guys buy your wood pellets? And what brand do you like best? I started looking and have seen some at walmart and Lowes.

Lowes has 40lb bags of Pitt Boss competition blend for $15, so I got one to try. Walmart had Pitt Boss hickory, but can't remember the size or price.

I wouldn't buy pit boss pellets or traeger. Traeger uses cheap filler wood, like alder, then flavors it with oils of other woods so they have a very weak flavor profile. Pit boss also is known for low content of the better woods like hickory, oak, cherry, whatever good flavors you want. Here's a video from Shane Draper. He does work for Grilla but listen the the pellet portion of the video. He gives some honest advise.

And as far as where to purchase, most go to Academy or Dicks, or just buy online.

Found a connection and am getting a Traeger Pro 22 at a discount. Wasn't looking at those particularly, but the price was right. Looking forward to a cook on it this next weekend.

Pellet grills are more involved than I realized lol. Now I'm looking at the rectec bull and grilla grill silverbac. Anyone own either?

Yeah my wife isn't a fan of the cost. I can buy a silverbac with all accessories I want for under 1k. Once I buy a rectec and accessories I'd be looking at 1400

Pit boss hickory are good, just bought some green mountain hickory oak mesquite and might do a brisket flat tomorrow will report back results

Just started the first smoke on the new Traeger. We're 30 min in on a pork loin. If this doesn't give sufficient smoke flavor, I'll be majorly suprised. Dont think our electric masterbuilt even smokes this much...
