Why Vols fans should be alarmed?

Dang.... You let the cat out of the bag. You have now told the only ones that couldn't see these problems through their orange color glasses. Now they know that it's going to be a rough season and it's not ice skating.... :)

Gator, you would back anyone that talks negative about Tennessee :bore:

Good points.

I do want the Vols to do well, but the Butch hype is covering up a serious problem in my view. Who knows. If I'm right, no one will care or remember and if I'm wrong, good. What I do know is this - Vol fans are going to great lengths to justify Butch hiring Debord and that should tell you all something. It's a bad sign.

There I go again. Guinness gets me riled up.

The only person that should need to justify the Debord hire is Butch Jones and he already has. It's his job on the line. His paycheck. Not mine or other Vol fans. If Debord don't work out For Butch at the end of the day, I'll go home the same as I always have.

Where is the serious problem? He's living and working in Knoxville.

So your telling me that Ohio St. has a coach who wigged out and faked a heart condition or whatever he did to get out of his last job but Butch Jones is a serious problem? :tu: Ok.

No no no. Not "talking negative" about Tennessee. Butch Jones, big difference.

In two years, you'll come over to the dark side as there won't be any hype to blind you.

This is a great post and the OP pointed out several great points. I posted out almost 3 weeks ago that Debord would be the new OC and several told me I was crazy. This hire shows that CBJ doesn't have much confendents in himself and went for the ole safety planket. I guess riding Kelly's skirt strings is over.

That's deflection, not an argument.

Urban Meyer has his demons, but that's not the subject of the post.

Let me run this by you GNB. No BS answer either.

Put yourself in Butch Jones shoes. You have worked your tail off for two years to get this heap of what used to be a great football team back on its wheels. You have worked night and day to get the trust of the University, the team and the fanbase back. You have rebuilt bridges on the recruiting trail that were once burnt. You have made steady progress in the limited time that you have had and you know that the time is getting shorter because let's face it, if you don't win your out.

Now you have to make a decision such as this. What do you do? Do you follow the thoughts of an over ambitious at times fan base and hire somebody that would probably want to bring in his own guys further disrupting the continuity you have put in place? More than likely have major scheme overhaul. Or do you hire the guy that in this pivotal moment in your career will keep that continuity intact and make the transition as seemless as possible?

Come on man, your smart or at least you claim to be. Tell me what you would do man. Lets hear how GNB would decide what he would do.

UF fans are probably not very happy with Meyer but he's one of the greatest coaches every. CBJ couldn't hold Meyers and Spurriers jock... :)

I'm pretty sure that CBJ has the Ole Ball Sacks sack twisted up in his jock. Seems like it's 2-0 isn't it.

cmon you can't honestly think that butch had no choice but debord for this hire, I thought you were smarter than that. I don't think this had anything to do with confidence, I think that is who he wanted. Did I think it was right? No, but what do I know. I hope he proves everyone wrong.

You beat me to it.

GnB was slurring his words last night. And yet another example of PUI :D !

BTW, many "experts" say that DeBord is the perfect hire at this time.

And not to detract from posters on here, but they actually get paid to express their opinions :D !

Wow. What a thread. There is one BIG KEY point here that everyone is missing, or at least no one has pointed out yet. TN doesn't run Bajakian's offense, TN runs Butch's offense. Butch would have been crazy to go out and hire a "big splash, big name" type of guy who wanted to come in and change our offense. That would have set the team back because they would have had to spend countless hours learning new terminology and a new scheme, vs spending all that time perfecting the scheme they have already learned. Gator and darn2ten should understand this more than anyone, as this is why 'Champ is no longer coaching at FL, because there was never any continuity on offense. Iron sharpens iron, and this is exactly what I'm hoping for in regards to Butch's and Debord's differing styles of offense. Debord's greatest strength is our team's greatest weakness, which makes it seem to me like this is a solid hire. Our offense will be extremely similar this year compared to last, with maybe just a touch more power run game. Would I rather have seen Azzani promoted...sure, but Butch hasn't been successful everywhere he's been by making bad coaching hires, and I fully believe he hired the guy he wanted and thought would be the best fit, vs GNBs theory that he was scared and hired someone out of 100% familiarity.

^^^^ Very well said! I'm gonna say something I hear gator fans say when people Talk about coach DR.pepper and his staff....

"THE MAN HAS NOT COACHED A DOWN AT TENNESSEE?? BUT HIS ALREADY A BAD COACH/HIRE?"

That's all :tu:

I just hope that the average joe cant tell if we are gonna pass or run simply by our formation. It was easy to spot all year especially in the bowl game. GO VOLS!

That was proven to be false.

I'm not sure that its been proven who's offense UT runs. CBJ has only had one OC since he has been a HC. Time will tell.

I wonder how must rust Debord will have to knock off. Also interesting that CBJ didn't promote Coach Z to OC. The OC change could be a make it or break it in year 3.
