Hot. Damn hot. Real hot etc.....
I was slated to be out in the '90s' for the last 2 weeks of October. Daytime highs in the upper 60s apart from the one day of snowfall that was gone by the afternoon.

My first hunt in 12 years that I saw literally zero sign anywhere. I was hiking an average 6 miles a day, the snowy Tuesday I covered 9 & didn't cross a single elk track! Muleys & antelope everywhere (it was great to see the antelope recovering after last winter) but no elk.

I spoke with Adam, the local possum cop (I've run into him every year since 2011 now) & he told me that not one elk had been tagged out of my particular unit since October 12th.

I ended up sacking it off 5 days earlier than planned & coming home. I still had a fantastic time, but it would've been a lot better with a couple of full coolers in the truck 🥺 It's very hard to whinge about a hunting trip where the weather was too nice though!

It's definitely been "too nice" for hunting out here. Actually, all of September n October has been warm.
Some weather has finally pushed in but still a little warm.
The Tuesday storm brought much needed snow to the fires. I was actually driving from SE MT back to the Western part of WY, so I got to drive through the heart of it.

Wish you'd had gotten an elk but glad you had a good time!

Beautiful scenery. We've visited my sister in Colorado twice and absolutely loved the mountains. Sure would like to live in a place like that.

Now, we'd never move to a state that far Left and trending worse with every election, but we have had many discussions about Wyoming or Idaho. Plenty of public opportunity for me to chase animals and fish, and much better politics than Colorado.

One of these days I just need to spend a week or so out there hunting rather than a family vacation with a few hikes thrown in and see how I really like it.

Go in winter. Then see if you want to live there! 🤣

I know I'm not that tough!
-40⁰ with 6 feet off snow being commonplace & a mild breeze generally being around 20mph (it's not 'windy' until it hits 50) interstates closed off for days, if not weeks at a time...... Even with all of today's modern conveniences, you have to be genuinely hard to live there full time.
