100 $

my suggestion is Andy send me your plastic pot and Setterman send me your walnut one and i will use them the first 2 weeks of the season. i will give each pot a full week of hunting and then i will let you know which i prefer and which the turkeys preferred.

i will send you my address, thanks in advance for being willing to settle this question once and for all and contributing to the greater good of this site

IMO, my walnut aluminum sounds much better to me then the plastic pot aluminum I have.
I believe you and I know you know what a wild turkey likes to hear. With that said, you're going to make me go home, throw them all out of the ground and do yet ANOTHER test to see which one I prefer TODAY. :D

Which striker and which style tip do you run with your aluminum? Do you use same striker with wood and plastic aluminum pot? I have more strikers than I care to admit, but was wondering if you have one that I do not own, which is highly likely with the number of strikers out there these days.

I'm embarrassed by the number of strikers I possess. It's an obsession.

I run a Fred Cox Tulipwood on my Aluminum, although the dymndwood one it came with sounds really good. On my slate, I run a Cocobola striker I got somewhere, and sometimes I run a Fred Cox Monkeywood which sounds really nice.

I really like the Fred Cox strikers they're very balanced and really suit my calling style. I sent REN one last year that was Ebony I believe, maybe he can offer an opinion without us having to spoon feed him free stuff. :rotf:

Hahah. Yes that ebony one sings on a crystal surface and is very good on slate. It's ok on aluminum but I like it on the other 2 better. Tulipwood and ironwood are 2 of personal fav but I don't currently have one of Darrins to say what's best there.

I did not get the striker when I traded the other day, but so far I really like my dymond wood striker made by Harold Fowler.
Question for you guys that bought an aluminum form Darrin, do you condition this call or use some kind of chalk on the striker. If you use chalk, what kind?

Mine came with what he called pool cue chalk. He said condition the striker. I works really well.

Now my wife is wanting me to get new camo. We signed my oldest daughter up for the hunting for a cure. Im gonna be her guide so we didn't put in for that but we wanted her to see how st jude operates. Be good for her. Any way my wife said none of your camo matches and looks ratty to be going up there. I told her the turkeys don't care and I usually laugh at the guys with new matching camo. Ha Ha! Wont be long now boys!

I use green scotch brite on my call surface, and use one of 3m sanding blocks for my striker. It goes against Darrin's suggestion, but works well for me.

Over time the surface of my call begins to fade and on one of my old ones I've actually worn through the green to bare aluminum. Call still works fine, and there's little doubt where the sweet spot is

I use the chalk he sent and have not touched the call surface. As I have stated before, I love the fact that I don't have to condition the call. I will get you the name of the chalk when I get home but any pool cue chalk would probably work.

Ya'll need to try Halloran's one-piece strikers. They grip the surface better than any striker I have (and I have a pile). I especially like his ipe and purpleheart striker. I've heard good things about his yellowheart as well. His ipe striker sounds good on every call I own.

Pull the trigger...http://www.midwestturkeycall.com/prodlist.asp?cat=David Halloran Turkey Calls&dn=1&cc=T

I have his yellowheart and it is good but a tad thick for my preference. My actual fav striker if his is the 2 piece ebony he has. Thing is nasty on glass.

This is embarrassing to say/admit, but I may have one/some of his, but I don't know for certain. Ha! I know the slate call I have from David is dated 2004, but who knows with all the strikers that I've amassed over the years. I am 95% sure I have never ordered any from Cox/Fowler. I'll sift through all of my BS tonight and see what I come up with.
