Don't forget

I dont care about opening morning of bow season. But give me a cool late october afternoon with the leaves forming and scrapes being made under autumns leaves and i am there!
Same here. Never have been really excited for early season unless its in the 40s or 50s. I love those dreary october days with temps in the 50s and a misting rain!!

Ugh  I dropped a glove one time & figured no big deal, I'd just keep that hand in a pocket. Well sure enough an old nanny doe came up sniffing right to it, then began snorting her head off and wouldn't stop. Had I not been hunting a specific buck I'd have dropped that hag. And I should have because she just wouldn't leave. She kept circling back raising a ruckus and I never saw another deer.
If she blows she goes!

Years ago when I lived in South Carolina, I had a 45-minute drive from my house to the Sumter National Forest where I hunted. It was early season and a nice sunny day with a full moon evening coming. It was a perfect setup for a late afternoon hunt. I took off work early, maybe 2:30 ish and scooted home and grabbed my hunting clothing, pack, rifle, stand, etc. tossed them into the trunk, and headed on out. I quickly drove to the forest. Man, I was excited, I had the parking spot all to myself so I jumped into my hunting clothing, checked my pack, grabbed the rifle, and went to load it. I had taken my Marlin 336 that day, so I pulled out the ammo from the pack and found I had taken 20-round nose bullets, 150 gr., but 308, not 30-30. Nuts, ok I placed the gun back into the case, put it back in the trunk, started up the car, and headed for home. Got home grabbed the right ammo and still made it back for a short but still great evening hunt. I always double-check the caliber now.

Never fails I'll get into the tree and leave my bow hanger. Maybe not a necessity to others, but to me I love having it. Also this ain't necessarily forgetting something, BUT don't FORGET to look under those tree stand seats for wasp nest. One year I was climbing up early season in a stand I ain't hunted yet that year, luckily the moon was bright because I never would have saw the softball size nest under my seat. If the sun would have came up I'd have been jumping 18ft out of that tree 😆

Not deer hunting, but for one of our trips to waterfowl hunt in North Dakota I left my shotgun in my truck when we left Indiana. I know several guys up there so I had guns to borrow, but never lived that one down…

From the early 90s to 2005 or so, I'd wing it and always forget something opening morning, even if it was trivial (bow hanger, latex gloves, etc). Around 2005, I typed out a list of items required to hunt first morning of bow season. I compiled that list and emailed it to myself with a title/heading that I could search and find in out years. I now keep that list on my smartphone in the notes section. IMO, my list is a little too much, but I know if I have key items in the truck and at the base of the tree that morning, I will be good to go. Food for thought.

I haven't forgotten anything notable but I have lost something… it's in the middle of a cow pasture in Wilson County. If anyone else on the lease happens to find it, my pride is laying somewhere next to the shallow ruts left in the field by my wife's SUV after getting stuck. 😂
