Approve the use of handguns chambered in .410 shotshell.
Interesting. You done much testing/patterning with a .410 pistol and turkey loads? Would your primary use be for fanning/reaping?

I have.

I own a T/C contender with a 12" choked barrel that I shoot quite a bit and use for the occasional small game hunt.

It's purely a situational piece where they can either be decoyed in close (under 20yds) or used for fanning or reaping.

I'll confess all of my shooting and hunting has been strictly with lead loads but with the tungsten super shot making it's appearance on turkey hunting scene I'm really curious in their application from a pistol.

Response that I rec'd this morning.

Mr Stewart,
Thank you for your comments. It is always good to hear the ideas from the hunters.
I am almost positive that we will make no changes to the Turkey regulations this year as we committed to not make any changes to our seasons while we are having the ongoing study with the University.
It would skew data to make changes and we have paid quite a bit of money for this study on our Turkey population.
However your proposals are noted.
Thank you,
Connie King

So if things get worse it will point to needing regulation changes that will now take 4 years to have an impact vs 2 years if we do something now. Makes sense.

What happens when the study is inconclusive?

I wouldn't call 4 days difference a HUGE variation remember the May 2 date is the MEAN of initiation of incubation of the entire state.
For what it is worth, it is hard for me to believe there is ONLY 4 days variation of the "mean day" between the southwest corner of the state where I live (much like north MS, lots of river bottoms and floodplain, 350' elevation), and the northeast corner of the state (much like VA, mountains, 1500' - 6000' elevation).

I did not post the entire paper.
Please post a link to PDF if you have it, I would love to read it.

There's more like a 2-3 week difference in the areas i hunt. We didn't even green out until 10 days ago and had 3 snowfalls during the season.

I never find nests, eggs, etc during the season and each season ends with birds basically silent as they're henned up.

There's zero chance of a 4 day difference

Wow I'd say you need a later season. I find cracked eggs every year opening week end. We green up usually 2nd week of season. Amazing the difference. Yes we need different season dates.

You have to really follow along with those FB post to get it. 99.999% of everything I post on there is backed by a cited source, yet two of Settermans googans will immediately team up on me and try their best to argue with me. Granted, I jump on the opportunity to call them out, and being the all mighty turkey slayers they are I usually end up getting bombarded with more googans that follow their lead.

Does anyone know who started that page, is it one of the posters who automatically get on the defensive?

Dont y'all wish all turkey hunters were as cool as us TNdeer members[emoji41]

Do you think the FB Googans have secret pages where they talk about what know-it-all tools the people on TNDeer are?

Naw, in all honesty, they are probably the type of people that just hunt for kill pictures to be cool, and aren't true turkey hunting gentlemen all the time. Kill turkeys during the spring, rest of the year don't think about them.

It's amazing how very few "true turkey hunting gentlemen" there are these days. ;) We are indeed a rare breed. Already planning my Fall shotgun season :)

Can't wait. Gobblers only. Will be somewhere in Tennessee in mid October, and hopefully get to go to Talledega National Forest in Alabama in November/December.
Of course, longbeards only, and only after l scatter a flock and hopefully call one back up looking for his buddies.
