Glass Boat Questions

Like you, I'm scared to death of an Opti-pop.
A month or so ago there was a garage kept 1997 stratos 201 pro in mint condition with a 2018 250 hp optimax on it. I think it ended up selling for $9k and it took over a week to sell so I had plenty of time. I could not bring myself to do it because of the optimax. 2018 250hp optimax's are selling for more than $9k. Basically, you were getting a free boat.

Here is another I wished I had jumped on

I promise you would be surprised if you actually rode in one. Everyone always is. I have been on Chickamauga in one when it got rough and I'm telling you when I say rough there were 3 foot rollers and the guy I was with put it on top of them and when we would land on each wave it felt like we were actually hitting a pillow. I have no lies to tell you…
Wow! Pretty amazing construction then.

I wish you and your wife would come teach classes here because I've yet to see any of these assclowns successfully load/unload a ski boat and dont get me started on the pontoon pilots. As far as "pleasure" boaters needing attention, there's too much evidence to support it. I've got a friend that sells boats for a living. He said when they come in they don't ask how much horsepower, how fast, how many assclowns will it pull, how big a wake does it make, etc. The first question they ask: "How loud is the stereo?" That's straight from the horse's mouth. I don't have anger issues, but I was raised to respect other people. I was also taught where you get your boat ready at the ramp, how to back a trailer, how to launch and load a boat, and how to get the hell out of the next guy's way. Maybe most importantly, I was taught what NO WAKE means. I'm sure you and your wife are the very, very rare exception, but I'm also sure you see the exact same things I do. I'm just thankful I have days off during the week to fish. I won't even go to the lake on the weekends anymore.
Calm down Francis! You know I'm just messing with you. There are douchebags in every vessel form on the water. Sunday of Memorial Day weekend we were coming off the lake and I was waiting in line to put trailer in the water and a guy with a runabout had the whole ramp blocked. It's not a wide ramp but can definitely get 2 wide. The guy in front of me was pissing and moaning and kept revving his diesel Excursion blowing smoke everywhere. Well the guy finally gets loaded so dude backs in and they load a cruiser. I back in beside him and wife has to weave through all the knuckleheads floating right out from the loading ramp. She gets it on, I hook the strap and off we go all the while the dude mad at how long it was taking the runabout is still trying to get loaded. I just had to laugh and think what an idiot he made of himself. Oh and there was a wake boat blaring his speakers at the ramp. They were so cool that while we were wiping ours down they pulled by going to the campground with it still blaring on the trailer. I just shook my head as they were our age. 😬🤣

Calm down Francis!

Here you go

2000 Champion 202SC with a 2018 Mercury 200 Pro XS

I have heard allot of great things about these as far as ride is concerned. I can't decide whether I hate the color or not

That Champ is a little older and a little rougher than I want. I love a yellow boat for some reason, but what is a Storm?

Storm was based out of Florida. They have a cult following. They are supposed to be extremely stable and handle rough water very well. I don't know when they stopped making them. I think they changed ownership a couple of times.

Storm makes a good boat. They were more into bay and flats boats but built semi custom bass boats for a long time. Company was sold twice that I know of. A couple guys bought the rites to the hull in like 2019 but not sure they ever got them up and running. They are between skeeter fast and Bullet fast. Nothing like an Allison or Norriscraft.

Next boat I get will be boat made completely out of 3/16 aluminum and and 250SHO on the back. I've talked to a handful of builders in Louisiana and there's a ton of legit builders to build a heavier, padded hull aluminum hull that is almost indestructible. For me and how I don't worry about much stuff in the water. It will be the way to go for me.

Found it for you Doug. $5,000 off. I'll gladly inspect it for $250 since I just saved you 5 gs. You can thank me later.

Thanks brother! I'll take you on the first trip in it since you saved me 5 large!

Here is my .02
Bass boats are simply not made to ride well in rough water. That was not the priority in designing the hull. Top priorities in a bass boat hull are 1. stable fishing platform with shallow draft 2. Top end speed.
If you look at the hull on most bass boats, the pad is quite flat which helps top end speed AND makes for a very stable fishing platform. Unfortunately it is not good for cutting chop on rough water.

For fiberglass that rides well in chop and waves up to 2-3 foot, but is still low enough to bass fish out of, look at some of the bay boats. We have a 21 ft Sea Pro (there are a LOT of excellent bay boat companies) at the beach and it does well in a moderate chop. Trim tabs would help a lot too. I would stay away from the Carolina Skiff and others with the same hull design. They are tough as nails but the flat bottom will beat you to death.
There is a trade off. It is stable to fish out of, but not quite as rock solid as a bass boat on flat water. It also drafts a few inches more than most bass boats of the same size.

If you don't do a lot of casting where you are standing most of the day, Some of the walleye boats are very stable and smooth riding. Somebody mentioned the LUND boats. They are quite good.

All big motors can blow, that's a fact.A buddy bought a used bass boat with a 2013 250sho with less than a 100hrs.It blew with just alittle over a hundred hrs,was quoted $15,000 to fix it.He ended up with a new mercury 300 4stroke.
